Im looking to make a crawler chassis, it will be sitting under a Marui Big Bear datsun body. I just would like to know what materials I should use. I would like to use steel cause I only have a MIG welder. Just what it best? Some 1/2 inch C channel or steel rod? What size? Not looking for perfectly scale, just kind of scale. Also what is cheaper to use for suspension, leaf sprung setup or 4 link? I plan on using either T rex axles or Gmade Portal axles.

Thanks guys!

1/2 box tube. Bend it to your desired shape and split it down the middle with a band saw.

Thanks for your help man, Ive also breifly looked up making your own 4 link bars, but would like to know what a good bar size is for strength

When I make my own links I use either 1/4" steel or aluminum solid rod along with occasional 3/16" titanium rod and thread it to the desired size with a dye

Heres what Ive got so far. Its nothing pretty, and its not done yet. Gonna wait till Ive got axles and shocks to finish it thenn I will finish all my welds. I used the pie/relief cut method so its square. I know in the pic one cross member looks crooked, and it is. It matches the body mount holes on the body, they are crooked for some reason. This took about an hour

Thanks for everyones tips, whish I had seen that thread sooner, would have liked a smooth radius

Awesome job!!! It gives us newbs a chance to see how it's done!! I have always used the old fill the tube with sand and cap both ends and heat a little and bend....but that works better with round tube
