Hey guys just looking to get back in to RC and i'm curious which you guys would recommend, the HPI Wheely King, or the PTI Goliath? Or should i hold out for the Axial Scorpion? Any opinions will be helpful.

I would say go with pti .They will have the stretch kit out soon. But i may be a lil biased."thumbsup"

I just ordered the PTI, seems to be a good deal for what you get. I like the fact that its built to crawl, not do wheelies out of the box.

Wheely King comes with better internals on the axles, also it's ready to run. You can use those electronics for another rig. They may suck but it's better than not coming with anything.

Also it seems like vendors are more quickly coming out with aftermarket hop ups for the wheely king.

Few people have the servo mounts available, I know RCP has some CVDs, knuckles and knuckle joints in production.

I don't think I've seen anything aftermarket for the pti...
So overall I would go with the wheely king.

WK for sure. Hobby shop had a PIT I got drive around, would much rather have the WK.

There will be plenty of kits out very soon to stretch the WB, or you can do a 2 min search and find all the info you need to do it yourself.

WK also, 20 times stronger stuff

GET THE KING!

i Have been handing my king a beatdown for almost a month now.

With just adding a 75 turn lathe motor, changing a few things around ($0) it makes a really fun crawler
This is one of the tuffest trucks I have ever run.

I stripped out 3 rims on one set of moabs, and one on the stock rims with a small brushless motor on 11 cells.

Thats a stout drivetrain to take all that.

Yeah, I broke a axle shaft and shattered a spider gear with the brushless, but thats serious abuse!!!

I put it back on the 75 turn from brushless.... I don't think I'll break anything on it with this motor!

The king is a really fun truck.

I hated HPI... I think the savage is junk... never liked em.

The king has changed my mind about HPI.

This truck has my vote!"thumbsup"

What makes the wheely king axles so much stronger than the PTI axles? Anyone have pictures of the WK internals? I've yet to have any problems with my PTI axles and they offer alot of ground clearance. You just need to flip them over, or shave the bottom.

PTi internals are plastic, and strip easily, WK internals are metal

WK shafts are larger diameter

WK stock with full bearings

WK is Wider

I think mainly its the plastic ring and pinion of the PTI that sucks....

Some have had good luck though I guess...

i suggest you wait for the scorpion. it looks like a stout rig and all you have to do add your electronics. my dad has a wheely king and yes the axles are very strong but it is way to top heavy and the electronics are very cheap quality, it will take alot of mods to make a wk rock worthy. so if you think about it the scorpion amounts to the same price as a modified rock crawler wheely king. Avoid the Goliath!!!

66,
What do you expect for the price? A truck that cheap isn't going to come with a spectrum radio and Novak ESC. Hpi sells the WK as a toy. Also, you may want to read around the board before making the conclusion of wether or not the WK needs to be heavily modded to be a good crawler. according to HPI's people, it can be relativly competative for around $65.

pti

hey i am new to rock crawling and i just want to know how good is the pti goliath like is it a worthy rock crawler and since it says its a 1/18 scale how big is it can it even get over stuff i just need some feed back on this and i am wondering if i should get it :-P

go with the king.

you can screw around with it till you stretch it and theres no need for axle wideners:lol:. i have been jumping mine and only broke the steering bellcrank but have aluminum one comming and 4wd kit. and its fun to show off for people by doing wheelys.
