I dont see many Mini Z rigs on here, is the SCX the dominant micro crawler?

There's been a few, but the SCX24 is definitely more popular with it being an axial

In my opinion, the reason you see so many SCX24s is that they're more readily available at your local hobby shop and they're also less expensive. Plus they use a rechargeable lithium battery where the Mini-Zs use AA batteries. No doubt the Mini-Zs are much more scale looking, however the SCX24s perform better overall.

I agree with ALL of the comments on this thread so far... but I'd still encourage anyone to buy one of the new Jimny TS4's.

Yes, I agree... they are more expensive, have less aftermarket support, and can be out performed by a modified SCX24. But with that said, a stock to stock comp is a close race given the Axial is a little bigger.

But the new AIPO branded Jimny TS4 has improved front and rear bumpers that give better clearance and approach/depart angles. Along with some fantastic new scale details.

The AAA batteries were NOT a problem. Before I converted mine I was getting over 50 minutes on a set of Eneloop Pros. They run just like a lipo. No worries about draining them or leaving the truck plugged in. And you can buy them LITERALLY anywhere. I'm not saying it's better. I'm just saying the batteries are nothing to worry about and kind of a nice change of pace.

BUT.... the turning radius was holding me back. I knew with a little help, it could perform so much better. So, as usual, I fell down the deeeeeep tunnel of modifying a new RC model. It's been really fun and a different change of pace from my SCX24 collection. I fell in love with my little Jimny. I have started the build thread and posted the first video. I have figured out a way to cram a full light kit, sound, and a real working winch. :lmao:

Mini Zs have a few points were it just makes sense to get a SCX24 instead.

price 2X as much
Kyosho only electronics
lack of aftermarket
size

That said I do own a Mini Z 4runner and a SCX24. I like both but not really comparable.

I used the "sleekun" kit to convert the electronics and used the TX/Rx and servo from a SCX24 and a 2s lipo. I also go sleekun's adaptors to mount 7mm hex drive wheels. I used the stock wheels and tires from a Enduro24 cause anything taller looks funny.
