I can beleave nobody will help me out with this build...no replies:cry: I really need some input on this build since I have never had anything like this. I think im going to build a rockracer style supershafty.

thanks

To be honest with you. I think its best that you spend a little time looking at other peoples builds. everyone will have an opinion. But its what your comfortable with and what you can afford.

Like if it was me, I would go all out. But thats just me.

Harley is partial to Futaba while I am a Spektrum guy.

Some people like Axial, while others would go Losi.

The reality of it all is it is best that you look and inspect others builds to find a simple ground to build from, in the end youll be better off for it because youll learn what was the best choice and route to go.

Good luck and congradulations.

thanks for the input. I have been looking around alot and have some ideas but for me it seems that im a total newb again. lol Is the any super shafty builds that you might recomend to look at?

thanks

Give it some time, this isn't the most popular of sections.

Its funny that this used to be the most popular section (2006) for about a year.......
I still believe the TF axles are the most versatile axle on the market but with the invention of
the MOA (motor on axle) (1988.) the RC crawling got split into
2 kinds of ppl (Shafty & MOA).........and the battle lives on

Anyway ............

I didnt reply because I wanted other ppl to chime in here but since
no one is I will start.............

Look here to start: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=302166

Its my build that inspired the "Giveaway" that you won

Also do a search in this forum for "Dezmoon", "Reflection", "yotachump", "BartBender"

They have some Great Builds that inspired me in getting into modding the TF axles

But just like a 10th scale shafty crawler, your build will be experimental
till you determine what works best for you......

Servos: I have always run what the pros run HS-7980TH Mega Torque HV Coreless Titanium Gear Servo,

As far as motors: I would run "BR00D" 35 turn, they will give you good low end
and still have some top speed for rock racing.......;-)

ESC: I love my FX-R (Easy to program) "Harley" has some great videos on how to
set up your electronics............look here:
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136728

Hope this helps.............cant wait to see you build "thumbsup"

Other ppl will chime in here and tell you their opinion

Regards Rick

I cant beleave your doing that with a shafty. I aways thought the only way to go super was to go moa. I guess I should go look at everything and not just the axial stuff I have. I guess Im getting a whole new kinda monster and it seems that it should do way more and have more posibilities than I expected. All I can say is WOW. You guys have set the ball rolling and I hope I can make you all proud.
thanks

been outta town for 6 days, so that's why i didn't have anything to say :)

SS got it pretty spot on. there are many ways to go with this.

you def want some strong servos on a super. you can go the MT wheel tire route on this, but i recommend a rim with a big offset if you got that way. or you can cut and narrow them.

then gears would be axial since its the easiest ones to get. you could go one motor or two depending on your goals. one motor wont have the capabilities of the MOA's, but would be just as fun for bashing and trail riding. two tranny's/motors would give you pretty much equal performance to the MOA guys.

look forward to seeing more.

I would get an axial tranny with all metal internals and a steel output. Slipper clutch is a must.

For the motor I would either suggest a 35t brushed or something larger like the Tekin sc4x sensored brushless. Feeding those axles enough power will be fun!

I was looking at tires and wheels today. Should I be looking for 40series like mud slingers, roc loc, roch crusher, or should I be lookin at 2.2 baja claw, swampers. What would be best all around tire for a rock racer style setup. Do I go tall? I want to go big!

I was also looking at trany's and think that the built axial is best suited for what I think I want to do. I dont think the dual tranny's is what I want right now so I was thinking maybe putting in a dig. Is this a good idea with 4wheel steer? I have read mixed things about this.

So where I sit on my first idea for this build.

axial trans (Built) with/without dig still investigating my options

40 series mud slingers or roc loc's not sure what wheels

2- Savox SC-1268SG High Torque Steel Gear Digital Servo (High Voltage)-savsc1268sg for steering

revo shafts for drive shafts...Your ideas on this or other options would help

esc- fxr

motor- thinking about 35 turn but not sure

rx/tx- not sure because i havent figured out how many ch. I want/need

Castle bec

I have never run a lipo before so Im goin for it on this unless you all say no or i dont need to

thanks for all your help..sorry if I seem rude but Im really excited about this and waiting for answers is killing me...

PS its not for sale...lol

First thing is I'm glad it's not for sale......I think your gonna have fun with this build "thumbsup"

Roc-Loc's are taller then any other tire and look good too

The REVO drive shafts are going to be a bit tricky because:
the pinions on the TF axles are 8mm and the stock outputs on the AXIAL trany
are 5mm so you are going to have to be inventive unless you buy some aftermarket outputs for the AXIAL trans

"joeyf" found these

or look here:

Or read some older threads on what ppl have done !!

Dont worry about being "Rude".....your not
I'm excited for you cuz I know what it's like to get hooked on these awesome TF axles

I was even thinking about making my own drive shafts. We made some for 1:1 jeep out of square tube for a spare and it worked so well we used it all the time. I think it will be fun to try something new. I will see what happens once I get started.

Have you anyone used the mud slingers? The vid on them kind scares me. It seems like they are a slick/hard compound.

I just saw a thread on someone using an e-max trans. Is 2 motors setup like that worth it?? Is it a strong trany?

I don't have any experience with the E-Max stuff

I am going to start experimenting with the WK trans (Wheely King)
That trans has many aftermarket gears and housings and looks strong
Next Project

first congrats on the win. i run a e-maxx tranny with two handwounds, it works great but it eats idler gears very easily. i have steel ones in the mail, hopefully this solves the problem.

Thanks.. I decided that I have no idea what Im actualy getting into...lol I read take some notes read some more scratch out notes, then rewite my notes and read some more. Then I think I have a setup that I like and read something else and it changes again. Is this a normal thing?? I dont remember have so many ideas with my ax-10. I guess it comes down to the fack that this thing is huge and I have room to do whatever I want. I have figured out there are really no limits when building anything super. I was limited in space and such for so long that now that I have room none of the esc's look to big, trany's are just the right size no matter what size they are. I can put any motor in and not worry about if it will fit. I could I can and I will make this something to be feared. I guess Im going to fast with the ideas and its time to back off and think what really needs to happen with this build. I still think that the rock racer idea is where I will take this, but time will tell. Thanks for your help and support in this build.

PS Its still not for sale

oh yeah I almost forgot. Is there any really short drive shafts? Like 1 1/2- 2" that are really strong.

Heres what I think ;-)

You sound overwhelmed at the moment.........
And you should be !!!!

You just won what most ppl dream about owning !!!!!!

Please dont take that the wrong way......;-)

I have the ut most respect for you !!
and I know how you feel right about now..........
Cuz i'm working on a BYB using a T8 motor/ESC combo & this thing is
gonna hall A$$...................so I'm very excited.............

BUT........
You need to get the Chassis and Axles in hand.........

I think this will clear a lot of things up, and get you going in the right direction!!!

DO NOT buy anything yet............(My opinion)

Im shipping it to you 3 day so you will get it on Wednesday
then........
see what you need to get a "Roller" and then determine what electronics to buy...........

Please don't spend unnecessary moneys on stuff you may not want or need.....

Again I say all of this with the ut most respect and want you to be happy with the end result....

I Pm'd you my Cell number if you want to talk on the phone\
call anytime......;-)

Best Regards Rick
