Intelligent Design VS Evolution

single cell reproduction is pretty much cell division if i remember right. efficient for single cells, not so much for larger organisms. imagine one day, wake up and see another you just hanging out. for more complex organisms, the usual (i say usually because there will be an exception that i can't remember) reproductive system revolves around an egg and something to fertilize that egg. flowers have seeds and pollen, humans have an egg and sperm. now there are hermaphroditic organisms that can do this all in one shot, but reproductive organs promote genetic diversity in the child organism. without that genetic diversity, there is pretty much a telephone pole for a family tree. now the origins are lost on me as well, but to promote a more diverse and possibly better child just makes good sense.

I dont know if this is correct, but here is what Wikipedia describes as Intelligent Design (as defined by the Discovery Institute):
"certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection"

Does that description allow for flaws? Yep. Does it cover everything? Nope. Do people take that description too literally? Most definitely.

That sounds about right, but its still more of an opinion than a theory. They only proof they can put forth is what is written in the bible. Saying that something has to be supernatural because we can't explain it is a poor way to consider anything. That is also the "God of the Gaps" argument, where God can only inhabit the unknown. I don't know where it originated, but Christians continually latch onto it as proof for ID and continually they lose ground because of it.

The only think I can't quite wrap my mind around is how organisms went from multiplying to having reproductive organs. Actually, it could come up, but the cells still multiplied, so more and more cells would have reproductive organs, but (say it was male first) even if the female version came out, then how could they have evolved to be used with each other. I see it as being completely separate. Seems very odd that both mutations end up becoming part of the same process

Does what I wrote make sense? I mean, how many times did the organs fail to work before it actually worked

Asexuality. There are still animals today that do not need a partner to produce offspring.

That was pretty good. But now I'm going to have to watch the entire series 'cause it created more questions than it could have (theoretically) answered. :ror:

you pretty much nailed it. the biggest problem with ID is that it attempts to use science, which always uses occam's razor to eliminate any unnecessary/supernatural explanations, thereby rendering ID a null hypothesis.

until some real, testable, and empirically verifiable evidence comes up for the existence of a designer/creator deity the people pushing ID need to keep it in church and out of science class.

I would rephrase that to say they try to use science to validate or prove belief, which you simply cannot do. There is also the quite large problem they have when science goes against what they believe so they ignore it all together. Some would say that it would be a test of faith...I would say it was a matter of pride...

Even if you found concrete evidence of God, that doesn't make the story of creation true. It is still a man-made book written 2000-5000 years ago.

Oh wow ! Nice. Tomorow I'm getting dragged to a wedding but have time in the morning till mid afternoon to kill while my girlfriend gets ready for her gig as bridesmade. I'll hang out arround the house and grill up some veggie burgers

Did anyone else catch the Mermaids the body found on Discovery Sunday night? WOW YOU NEED TO CATCH THAT SHOW AND THEN WEIGH IN ON THIS SUBJECT. THIS MIGHT END SOME OF THE BICKERING! I am still in shock! I have watched it like 8 times because I am that shocked about ID and Evolution and what science has found. I was not expecting to think about my response to this subject.

I take it you didn't happen to notice that its 100% fake. CGI can make things look real, have you seen any action movies in the last few years? Not to mention a simple google search will show that it's known to be fake.

100% is a bit much. So you dont think the Navy is testing sonar weapons? The bloop is fake? All the old stories through history are fake? There is NO WAY it could be true? Could 100% be a stretch? are we 100% on anything? I know CGI can make it look like that but I dont think it's 100%

Real or not I couldn't say, but I do think it's a bit weird that we know so little about what's in the ocean...

Yeah we probably know more about the moon than the depths of the ocean, but a humanoid fish living down there? I doubt it. There is no fossil evidence for the evolution of a humanoid fish species, so why even think that it's a possibility?
