International CXT Tow Rig

So I have come across a pair of these New Bright International CXT bodies and decided to go ahead and build one. I have decided that i will build a tow vehicle with a few modifications. A buddy of mine talked me into extending the bed to make it look more proportional, now I know this is not the standard scale look but i think it will give a better appearance to the overall truck. After spending some time figuring out how I was going to layout the chassis and what parts I was going to use i started by making a cardboard chassis to lay things out:






After the test was done I started to fab some of the side rails:




After the side rails were completed its time to put them together:

While I was working on the rails I also decided that I was going to build a trailer to go with this that would be able to tow two of my SCX10’s behind so this is what I came up with:









I’m still trying to decide what my deck material will be as well as the neck of the trailer once I get the ride height adjusted on the CXT.

Also we have the chassis as it sits now with body mounts, and shock drops for the front. Hope to get the rears completed tonight:

Have you ever seen one of these ridiculous trucks in person? The bed is so out of proportion to the cab it's just funny to look at! They literally look like some redneck slapped a pickup truck bed on the back of a 5 Ton cab and chassis.

Best of luck with the build, I'd love to stumble on to 1 or 2 of these cabs myself for a large scale tow rig for the 1/6th scale Willys. "thumbsup"

Here are a few of the progress so far:







I know its not a lot but it is a good start to what I hope for is a great look for the truck. I want to give a big thanks to Sgtbham for hooking me up with this great body work. For those of you who have not seen one of these in person the bed was sitting at 7 1/2" from inside rail to tailgate and will be extended to 12" when completed. Then lined with a steel floor and Plasti-Dip sprayed for bed-liner. I'm hoping the steel plate will help with the support of the goose neck and prevent any damage to the bed.

I was able to get in a little bit of time in on the trailer last night and here is some of the progress on it. I am not done with this but did get some good progress completed. All of the deck boards are done, and the tie downs are welded in place. I do need to sand these down and get the goose neck finished and i should be good with this. The one thing i did add that is different from some of the others is to add some of the 1/4" aluminum I had to the ramp portion which should allow for some good grip without the need of actual ramps that lower all the way down. Let me know if you have any questions of how i completed something and i can get some additional photos of this.

Stain is on and looking good, you can see better in these photos what i was talking about with the aluminum angle that i mounted on the ramp.



I have also been able to get the tie down mounts welded and sanded down.



Then while the stain was drying i worked on the front 4 link setup. I had to get some new tabs fabricated and welded up.

Thanks I still have some work left to do on it such as the goose neck and lights then we will have to get in painted a final time, but I'm happy with the progress so far. More updates to come as soon as time allows more work on it.

So I have been able to find some more time to get the suspension and links completed. Here is a shot of it completed and of the flex.







I have also been able to get the goose neck completed on the trailer and applied the final coat of stain and assembled everything...Hopefully for the last time:



As for the bed of the truck SgtBahm has actually started a build thread to keep track of the progress so please feel free to stop by and check it out. Here are a few more loaded, side by side, and a SCX10 Flex show off shot. I also included an overall length of this just to show you the real size of this. I do have to say that i am really happy with the angle of the ramp and the tabs I included to ensure a good grip, right now there is no problem but I think when they get swamped with mud this will help out. The real reason for building this rig is that my son (3 years old) drives the honcho and it seems to never fail that when we are on our way back to the vehicles that he will not want to drive the truck back. I decided that I can let him drive his and I will drive the CXT with trailer and JK to the crawling spot then unload and have fun. Then on the return trip just load both rigs up and tow them back.

Its been a while since my last update but i have been waiting on a few parts and some awesome body work to be completed. The bed stretch is complete and turned out awesome. So enough with chit chzt here are some pics:
