Ittybitty's BJV4 XR10

did you add any weight to the front wheels?
if so, how much?

I double checked, but didn't see this info anywhere.

thanks!"thumbsup"

Yeah I've currently got 4oz in each front wheel although I just got done sticking a 1/2oz on top of the front axle tube on each side...so I'm gonna try it like that rather than pulling the wheels apart to add it before I know i like it.

Since I just figured out how to embed a .pdf after photobucket removed the ms paint version I had posted in the setup sheet thread I thought I'd post it in here too. The measurements are not exact on the links since I measured them the best I could with them on the rig.

Just a quick update...I fried my 7950th this weekend. I'm blaming it on a combination of using the stock drag link mounting arm on the right front knuckle as opposed to an extended one as well as the fact that the stock steering setup seems to bind up pretty easy. I was also running it at 7.4v which sped it up I'm sure. It will only turn left now and will not recenter or even attempt to steer right...might have to try the 7980 after all!

Heck yeah...my VP goodies showed up today!

I'm gonna be working on the steering this week. I'm tired of the factory steering setup and will be converting it to a solid tie rod. It looks like I''ll also be picking up a slightly longer servo horn as well but that'll probably wait until i get my 7950 back.

I had a little trouble getting the bearing in the back side of the right side knuckle and it finally let loose on me so I'll be picking up some new bearings somewhere I guess. The other side went in with a whole lot less effort but still plenty tight. The outer bearings on both sides popped in with a simple push with my fingers though...great fit!

Of course I cashed in on my free t shirt!

hows the rear axle feel now? Everything looks good. "thumbsup"

The VP lockouts definitely get rid of most of the slop however it is not completely gone. It is MUCH better though!!

Looking good Itty "thumbsup"

THANKS

I swapped out the rod ends on the factory front uppers for revo ends to gain a little length. This meant I was able to rotate the knuckles back and not have them at such an extreme caster setting. I haven't been able to test it yet since I'm missing a bearing until another package of Avid bearings show up to replace the one I broke last night.

It's not looking like a new chassis will happen as soon as I was thinking so I need to get busy tuning this chassis some more. I'd really like to pick up a set of wider offset rear hubs to close the gap on the width difference front to rear. I really don't think the benefit of squeezing through gates with the narrow rear outweighs the stability gained by a wider stance.

Surprise surprise...changes are being made. My new BJV4 showed up over the weekend as well as my repaired hitec 7950. I started stripping the XR down and then moved on to mocking things up with some 8-32 all thread before I make up the final links. I've run in to a problem that I'm not really sure is a problem so I stopped here for the night...

the shocks will hit if you do not have them limited. if you are following my link setup there is a slight bit of forward bias that will effect the shock angle and the rear case clocking will change it as well

i have a .5" limit on the outside of the stock axial shock shaft. you will need to limit the shocks to get the performance out of the truck. (more is not better)

YOU WILL NOT WANT TO RUN THE SHOCKS UNLIMITED. THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH TRAVEL OTHERWISE!

i have done countless hours of testing and tuning on the chassis and this is what works the best.

the build looks great and if you need any help please let me know"thumbsup"

...and that is why I chose this chassis...THANKS!!! Hopefully I''ll have it as a roller tonight and my Ti links should be here tomorrow. I'm also waiting on a longer robitronic servo horn and a set of 600 VP hubs for the rear that I'm hoping will bring the rear width closer to the front but not quite even.

excellent!

and good call getting the width a bit closer...i 'll be watching!

Well I made a u turn in the progress tonight. Seeing as I have a comp to go to in TN this weekend and my Ti links weren't showing up until tomorrow and a few other parts werent going to make it 'til friday I thought it might be smarter to put the stock chassis back together and get everything a little more dialed in rather than rushing the setup on the BJ4. Once I get back I'll have almost another month to get it setup correctly. I will also most likely be getting out of the BRXL's prior to setting it up. I sat them in the chassis last night a number of different ways but nothing I came up with worked like I wanted so I'll be looking for something smaller to replace them.

thats a little disapointing to hear about the brxl's....I love my brxl's and hope I can get them shoehorned into my bj4....I dont know if I can go back to the FXR's..my BRXL's start up soo smooth compared to the FXR..did you try taking them out of plastic case and maybe heat shrinking them?
