Jeep Grand Cherokee (Rick's Build)

damn you beat me! i bought one of these, yes for $60 at Toys R Us, about a month ago. kept searching on here while building to see if anyone had done one yet.... it does come with everything shown in his photo. the stereo in the roof rack had to go, as well as everything under the body (crap). hacked the roof rack a bit for appearance, added led tail lights, dual headlights, and running lights and have four led's sitting on the front of the roof rack waiting for some kind of housing. also added a tow clevis out of the rear hitch and rear CA Yosemite plate of "WKCRWLR". been working on an aluminum chassis ever since (since i don't have any real tools, ie: welder etc.) at the moment i need to make some shock mounts and get my driveshafts in and i think i'm set. went with tlt axles even though they're wide - this will be an SAS'd full-width axle'd beast on monster meats. i do also need to narrow some tires to go on my narrowed wheels. i'll post up full specs and pics once i get it together the rest of the way. good luck with yours!

Yeah the stereo in Ricks Jeep sounds awesome, definitly keeping that for this build. I want to do a solid axle build up with this one as I want it to be more of a trail truck then Jim's daily driver. I'm thinking about making custom axles, either narrowing TLT axle cases or using TC3 diffs and making custom axle tubes. I'd like the axle to remain very scale so I might even buy two rear pajero axles and make some custom stuff up for the front. Pajeros use a small ring gear so that may be better for axle clearance reasons. VMG axles are another option but they are hard to find.

Rather than VMG axles, you could use a Tamiya semi rear axle, or cut down a TLT axle using SlinkySam's aluminum ears and some Mini Cooper and/or HPI driveshafts. That would let you offset the pumpkin to one side if you like. Sort of like how I did the TTB axle, only without the swingy bits

I've got it all figured out, I'm just saving up for a tlt kit. After looking at a tlt axles case I found out that I could cut one side down. Remember how a tlt has one short axle shaft and one long axle shaft? Well the plan is to use two of the shorter shafts in one axle. I've already made a prototype axle I just chopped both sides and made it to narrow.

Im defenitely staying tuned for this build, this looks like it will turn out to be as cool as Jims Yota! Going to have this one ready for the comp Jan. 7th?

Nice rig.... it might be a bit late but you could use a knight hauler axle for the rear. They are pretty narrow. I did have one but nitrorc Ed bought mine so I cant take any measurements for you. But it might be something to look into. Here is a pic of the one that I had. Basically they are the same as the tlt. Plus they are pretty cool being that they have splined axles plus metal hexes!

Rick truly has skillz...I cant wait to see the family crawl. Jim and rick on the rocks...Sounds like a drink if you say it fast enough...

I really like that front axle. I was looking for one about that width. Do you have any brighter pics of a what you did?
