Ha, I know you do! Not gonna lie, I look at your rigs a lot as I'm thinking about how to do things. I'm obsessed with your class 2 truggy.

Thanks! Yeah GCM makes a quality product.

So I ran it for the first time this afternoon with the body! Maiden run! Kinda stupid video but whatever...

This is with my new go pro and if you put it on 720p it's got some pretty good picture. I'm excited to shoot some real video that isn't just me driving in circles in the yard. Ha.

Re: JHTreyIII's Clod Build - 1981 Chevy Pickup

So after a couple days away from the truck I got back to it. Tonight I built the front bumper mount. First I cut some aluminum tabs to go in the C channel frame rails so I could bolt something to the interior of them and not be pulling tight on a void...

The I made this bracket to go between the frame rails out of my usual 16 ga sheet metal. The cut on the back of it isn't perfectly straight but you won't see it...

Then I trimmed and mounted the bracket that came with the front bumper and mounted it on top of the bracket I made. This will be painted as well....

It turned out pretty nice looking, not that it matters since I'm going to cover it with the bumper. I would have finished the paint and everything tonight if I had lost an hour searching for the bracket I made. I was grinding the edges smooth on my bench grinder and it shot out of my hands. I practically pulled the whole garage apart looking for this damn thing. It was done too and I thought I was going to have to start all over. Finally before I was just about to give up (an hour later) I decided to jack up my floor jack and sure enough the damn thing was inside the mechanism of my floor jack. What the heck!!! Ah, at least I found it. I can paint it tomorrow.

Damn Trey, the Chevy is bad ass! Your work and the 720 look great "thumbsup"

Re: JHTreyIII's Clod Build - 1981 Chevy Pickup

Thanks! Yeah I'm really excited about the camera. I didn't even do any color editing to it either. I can't wait to shoot some real footage and spend some time making it look good.

I like that video above but every time I watch it I feel like I need to lower the body some. The grass is tall enough that you can hardly see the tires. Then I go look at the actual truck and it seems fine. Ah, whatever. I think the fender flares will help that some too. They'll make the wheel wells smaller looking.

Re: JHTreyIII's Clod Build - 1981 Chevy Pickup

Thanks. Yeah there are a bunch in the previous pages of this thead.

Re: JHTreyIII's Clod Build - 1981 Chevy Pickup

Thanks! I bent it with a hand tube bender, then cut it off right in the bend. The thread is just threaded rod that I braised in the tube. The braising rod flowed onto the threads some so it's not perfect. I used some CA glue as thread lock to make up for that.

Re: JHTreyIII's Clod Build - 1981 Chevy Pickup

Thanks!

So today I got the inner wheel wells up front built. I still need to cut a slot up the middle of them for the shock to fit into. I also took some time and repaired a couple imperfections with some green body filler. I also started a little texturing on the body for rust spots.

That trailer looks pretty sweet! I'm actually going to use a product I picked up from Al's Hobby Shop in Elmhurst called Rustall. It took me a while to reply back because I hadn't tried it yet and before I said I was going to use it I figured it would be better to sample it. Here is a small piece of styrene that I made rust. I think it looks pretty real!

Got my rusty pro10's mounted along with my front bumper.

Edit: That's real rust...not rustall.

So tonight I relocated my electronics to the rear where there was room under the bed of the truck. Now I'll have all the room I need to build the interior without it fighting for space with wires.

After:

I used 22 ga sheet metal to make the bottom and styrene for the sides. I'd rather have sheet metal sides but this rig is starting to get heavy and I need to keep the weight down all I can.

I also got the winch wired up with one of heyok's controllers. Those things area great.

Yeah but that rustall looks pretty good! It really grabs into the textured areas. The problem with it is it comes off with a detergent of some sort so I'll have to do all of the rust before I clear coat and then touch those areas up with a flat clear. Paint and body is really all I have left now so I shouldn't have any problem finishing it before our camping trip! I may even shoot the first coat of white tonight.
