Josh's xr10 "Secret agent 3.5"

So with the end of the season comes time for a freshen up/ rebuild.

Going to step this build up to the next level with some new bits and pieces 8)

Looking forward to next year and some tough competition.

Josh.. Thanks to everyone for a great year "thumbsup"

So I have made some progress on the rebuild..

Stripped down the axles cleaned up the gears ready for milling.

Here is a standard axial lightweight gear( 3 in each transmission)

Now I did the front and rear gears differently

This is the front gears leaving 4 webs

The rear gears have had 2 webs left

And this gear was an extra that Allan's old man knocked out on the lathe, it already had the holes opened to 1/8

Both front and rear spools were done leaving 4 webs

Next was a gearbox clean out, new bearings in the trans, all new knuckle bearings.
Front gearbox before closing up(rear looks similar gears are just milled differently)

I also changed back to the vp trans centre section as I found a crack in the plastic one and didn't have a spare.

Front axle complete ready for servo, I have swapped out my sds 300hds for some dlux modded axial unis as the hds are in need of new bushes and I can't get hold of them at this point in time.

The rear axle was built with new bearings also.

That's all for now, I have a few other tricks up my sleeve and am also waiting on a couple more parts to show up, but I hope to have it running in a week or so.

All that Saaweeet work on the gears and the motor plate doesn't look like swiss cheese!? Lol..
That sucks you had to roll with the VP center after dropping weight from the gears tho.

Thanks guys"thumbsup"

The only gears I am worried about is the ones that went into the rear case top left in this pic"thumbsup"

I have some more gears that will be done similar to the fronts that I will have as spares.
I do have some new motor plates to do some mill work on but ran out of time, the rear plate is already drilled out but I want to pocket mill the insides to keep them dust proof.

Josh

Excellent work on the gears man! Nice weight savings for sure. I really wish I had the tools to do mine like that.. O well I guess.

Looking forward to seeing your motor plate all milled out"thumbsup"

I assume these weight holders will be top notch just like the rest of the parts leaving the Y-Town shop.

I am going to shorten my shock bodies by 5mm like I have on my villian, once this is done I should be on the home stretch of this rebuild.

Josh

So originally my plan was to run these 3 piece cf/polished aluminum ytown rims

,
but after seeing the ytown meths I knew what rims I would be running next year.

Also I am going to let out something that only two people know about, one of them being EddieO "thumbsup"

New sisu compared to old stubbies.
Stubby .020 Can with Rust Preventive Coating and Motor Armor
30t 28mm Stubby arm Drill Balanced
Dual Skewed CB20 Magnets
Ceramic Bearings
Team Firm Springs with Insulation
Lightweight Spring Posts
767 Laydown Brushes
Lightweight Heatsink Elimination Screws
Lightweight Endbell Screws
Lightweight Timing Ring

They are the only set of sisu skew mags out there. The testing was all done in Axle Busters, but same results, though the Sisu was smoother on the bench....I ordered more mags to build like 3 more sets but the company messed the skews up, so waiting on more.

Later EddieO

Still have a few surprises that im keeping close to my chest :birdie:

So I rushed this to get it done for the first comp of the cANZ 2014 season,

With only soldering the new motors back in the night before and lounge testing the functions, I ran into a small issue with my 4pk throttle pot but battled through.

First impressions were great at gate 9 on course 1 I lost rear drive after a bang in the diff, still managed to finish the course, stripped the rear trans down to find a broken gear on the final shaft.
20140120_191836.jpg

Swapped it out and drove trouble free for the rest of the day, managed to finish 3rd overall with a new untested rig.

Here is a few poser shots.

Waiting on pics from the comp to see if there is any of my junk.

They consist of mt exceed gear cases dlux tubes, upper link mounts, servo mount, dlux AL rear shafts, delrin hubs and full sets of rc bros gears, sds 300m smalls with big pin mods and rc bro lockers.
I will be starting a new thread in the berg section when I start to do work on the change over
Keep an eye out in the next few weeks for updates.

Josh

I had searched by sds but found them only available for AX10 or SCX10 ... by yss while ago not to proceed with the payment, maybe it's because of my bad karma ...;-)
