Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body

I pulled a set of axles off my SCX10 and swapped out the lockers for open diffs. The spider gears were removed from an HPI RS4 MT that I had wrecked a few years ago. The opens diffs seem to turn pretty smooth. The original dog bones were in rough shape so more aliexpress parts went in.

Getting the Chinese SCX gearbox to fit is going to be tough. I would love to have access to an HPI Wheeling King transmission but if I spend $60 in parts, that defeats the purpose of my junkyard build. I might clock the transmission to center the output shafts and build a plate to mount it. The ECX Barrage frame rails do not flair out in the middle like the SCX10 rails do.

FAILURE! I can't make the drive shafts work.

I just could not make the drive shafts work. There just wasn't enough space. I am going with Plan B. I am going to run two Brushless 380 motors.

i like plan b. may i suggest plan c? a single outrunner from eflite. no trans.

this is better than my mini monster.

I did not know that was an option until you mentioned it. If plan B fails, I'll give that a try. I did get the truck to move under its own power today in front wheel drive with the brushed motor and a 20 AMP ESC. It moved fine on flatground but stalled easily when I tried to climb some things. I think I'll be in fine shape with the two brushless motors running.
 
The Coronavirus is delaying my Chinese build supplies. I am waiting on another gearbox and a couple of ESCs.
 
I used part of the tub from the original Tamiya Lunchbox.

Rule 134 in the Lunchbox Racing Association rule book strictly states that trucks running in the modified class must retain 25% of the original chassis(I made this up, there is no Lunchbox Racing Association but there should be!)

I really just liked how well the 2 ESCs fit in the existing receiver box. I figured it would also keep mud out of the inside.

Wow that Lunchbox body brings back some memories. That was my first real RC. Probably in the mid 80s.
