Everybody needs their own build thread right? I've wanted a D90 1:1 for years but since I can't seem to find one for less than 30k with less than 100k miles on it I'm going to build a scale version out of a 10.2 kit. I'm starting with a Raffee Co hard body that doesn't seem to fit the 10.2 chassis at all so it's going to be quite a bit of work.
The plan is to do a fancy version of the utilitarian D90 called the Kahn. They take a D90 add a body kit and deck out the interior. Making the D90 just a little tougher looking. It should work well for an RC since it will give me a lot more room for tires. I've narrowed it down to two color choices but I can't seem to find the right paint to match either one. Any body have any ideas on how to match these colors?
The first step was getting the wheelbase right. The kit 10.2 is 313MM long and the D90 body has a 275MM wheelbase so there is quite a bit of shortening to do. Luckily it all can all come out of the rear end and I won't have to mess with steering geometry. The top rear links were easy I just ordered another set of 56.5MM links, these are the ones used for steering. For the lowers I decided I'm going to need all the extra weight I can get down low and I ordered a set of custom brass front and rear links from D-links. They're still in the mail but they should be here next week. I had to swap the driveshaft as well with the shorter one from the parts tree to make it work.
As far as power goes I'm going to be using a Mamba X and a Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster Expert 540 35T.
