With all of that work ahead of you I think the radio would be the least of my concerns. JMHO....

Trying to make an 8 track sound good through modern means is a waste of time. If you want to keep the original unit for aesthetics fine, just don't expect much as far as sound quality. FWIW a lot of old school resto's keep the factory unit in place albeit non functional, and have a hidden head unit that actually controls the sound. Just food for thought...

The radio is 2nd or third on my current list, after I figure out the current brake issue. It's my new daily driver, I need some tunes. I won't be doing any major work that handicaps it anytime soon. Before yesterday, the plan was to buy this pig, sell my obs powerstroke, and save up for abit and buy a newish superduty later this year. Now, my plans might have changed for reasons I don't need talk about.

BUT I want speakers in the doors. There's only a dash speaker right now. And it sounds just fine...but I want more speakers and louder tunes that I can hear over an open window and a loud exhaust. I don't need pristine sound. And even if I did go with an modern deck, I'd still be installing an amp.

...lol, Kenny Rodgers.

So many haters in this thread. Just leave me, Kenny Rodgers, and my 8 track radio alone.

BUt hell yes kenny rodgers. I have some CW McCall, Dolly Parton, AC/DC, Metallica, etc on 8-track too.

Just about everything I listen too was around during the 8track area. I'm SET!

I have the radio for all the modern hits. And the radio works like a champ too. All the mechanical preset stuff works great.
