Krazed Builds un-Stuck line into 2.2S

Interesting rear drive shaft. "thumbsup"
If you want to try another avenue for the bent rod ends look at those from the Losi range. they are a very stout option and can even be drilled to M4 or 3/16"

If you want to shed a bunch of weight from the rear and maintain the current width. Use wraith lockouts and make some special Ti axles to suit, this will provide the same width as an XR10 modified front end. I found even with my heavier than most driving style that tubes are not required in the rear axle.


Wraith lockouts with no tubes needed? Just need axles made for them?

Which Losi ones? From the lower links on the crawlers? Didnt even think about those because of the 1/8 rod.
 
Yep, the wraith lockouts are slightly longer than those of the AX10 I ran them hard for a good 18 months with out failure. Including heavy rolls and jumping, There is a slightly larger than normal gap between the lock out and the hex. Perhaps 3.5mm give or take. but this has not adversly effected the 5mm Ti axles i was running.
I am not specifically sure of where the Losi rod ends came from but would assume a crawler cause that is all I own and have owned. They look to be a 3mm or 1/8" hole but have similar diametre to that of a revo rod end. I have them on both my 2.2S and 2.2P tierod tapped to 3/16" also on the 2.2S rear lowers.

Venom axles and trans?

Something tells me that would be like dropping the anchor through the boat before even leaving the dock. :ror:

No Worries man,

Here is how the rear looks with the Wraith lock outs and special axles. I know Creeperbob makes some but I am also sure you could make your own.

Hows the plastic feel on the new ones? My experience in the past was a package of all broken ones. The plastic was hard which made it brittle to impacts.

I actually found the Axial XR and Wraith angled ones may work better. Theyre thiccker around the thread area and shorter. Let me drop my drive angle and maybe last longer on corner hits during tumbles.

Got a few more bits coming in this week to cosmetically dress the skid and hopefully drill the lower link pin holes in line on both sides. "thumbsup"

The do feel harder than the traxxas and axial one, but I don't find it brittle. In the description RC4wd memtioned about new compound for better durability.

I've been running the new RC4WD angled rod ends for over a year now and haven't broke one yet. They also have some that are just like the Revo's."thumbsup"
 
Got some stuff coming in this week to play around with on the rear axle - and a few more things to lighten this bubble up some more. Pictures and tech to come soon ..... for now though its been packing time.

So inventory is going out the door daily right now but I still was able to squeeze some me time in while the machine runs. So far the truck is working well through the practice Ive been able to get.

Two things I noticed and am need to change is my foams and Rovers. Im pushing to leave the rovers on for NENC and RI since the traction is so knarly at these two places the lugs just work. But foams are def too soft. This truck has so much forward weight transfer that I roll the tires over no matter what I do to my driving.

So I changed my lower links to be one hole lower then the rear and it really seemed to help free the nose up. Rolling over almost gone.

I also changed my oils from 40frt/47.5rear to 35frt/40rear ...... this seemed to help the lightness react quicker for me. Ive always been the one to run lite rig lite oils ... I believe it helps the weight transfer quicker and give a better balanced feel when driving.

but on the quest to lose some weight I started with the front. Easiest was to take wheel weight out, No I dont want to do that. Instead I got some aluminum tubes from RCBros and changed my locker out from the Vp one to the GripFab.

A cool 30grams gone there and I left my 64grams out at each wheel.

Next was that high boat anchor trans I have for now.

Lets look inside ..... First to go was the solid Robinson

And after a little drilling the holes out

Next was the idler shaft


For a 7075 aluminun gun drilled one


Wait! Is this thing working? Lets check .........


Phew scales not broke yet ...... but I moved on to the steel idler gear.


Yup Im the crazy guy willing to run plastic


Didnt do much to the top shaft though for now. Gave it a drill down the center but only saved about 2 grams there. Future plan is Aluminum like Krawlfreak did couple years ago.


Back together I saved some good weight with just a few changes.


A cool 35grams down ..... with future plans of a Carbon Fiber plate from BWD (he makes them and its about supporting other vendors), a lighter motor (got my eye candy looking at some), front drive shaft and eventually a new transmission.

for now though its time to get some practice and see what we gained. Its so fun playing with this truck and bringing the grass roots back into driving.

Oh and worked some tooling tonight for our Losi skid ....... got some cosmetic changes to make and tools to order but its getting there. "thumbsup"

Your skids look absolutely amazing. That was the biggest and nastiest cost factor to our chassis. Wish I could do them in house. Nicely done!

I hear ya, my table is such a mess doing them but the rewards worth it. They def take the longest to complete and luckily I work cheap lol.

89% happy with tooling, back to the CAD for the other 11% fine tuning.
