Losing interest

Just wondering what you guys do when you start losing interest in RC`s. We go crawling every Saturday. I told my buddy it wasnt the hobby i`m losing interest in, it`s wondering what i`m gonna break this week and how much is it gonna cost.Makes it not fun anymore cause i carry my truck out EVERY WEEK!
More upgrades you do just causes stress on something else and then it breaks.I dont wanna look back and have a $2000 RC either. I have a Wraith, Stampede 4x4 and a Redcat Nitro and last weekend i had something break on all 3. The Redcat is listed on ebay and soon as i get the parts to fix the pede im gonna sell it too and then just have my Wraith. Have any of you felt like this before? It`s not fun anymore cause it`s to costly lol

breaking parts is part of this hobby,that's what makes it an expensive hobby. in this economy i wouldnt blame you for selling your rigs. i've considered it too.

I've been RC'ing for 32 years now. I couldn't even begin to think of how much money I've spent. At the same time I could never give it up.

proper maintenance goes a long way. ive been driving my SCX10 several times a week for over a year and have yet to have a part break. same goes for my wraith. i dont baby either truck and am always amazed how much abuse they can take. even my cheapo Ruckus has never broke. dont let it get you down , just give them the once over after every run.

I can relate. Currently selling my 1:1 for the same reason. I got'em all fixed a while back, but the damage was already done.... digging the crawling though.

You think this is expensive you should do 1:1 crawling and break something everytime out instead of 50 bucks its usually closer to $500 hell I think I`m saving money doin the rc crawlin!!But I do know where your comin from you get bored with something,dont sell just put them on the shelf and take a break from it for awhile!

Ive never lost intrest in RCs...now lack of funds has set me back a couple times but I only do what I can afford to do. I keep at least one rig up and running at all times, sometimes at the expense of another rig but thats how it goes.....I also buy rollers and fix em up to sell for a small profit to support my hobby. Trading stuff is also another way I keep my rigs going.
I feel your pain about the Wraith....I fell into that money pit myself.....$1200.00 and still not happy with it.......

I use my rigs a lot but I'm reasonable about my expectations of them. I don't jump my 4x4 slash more than about 4 feet in the air and I do my best to unsure a smooth landing. When driving my scx-10 down a steep slope I position myself below it so if it tumbles I can catch it, and I have my slipper carefully adjusted so it doesn't break driveshafts.

I break rear driveshafts on my slash about once per month, but I buy them used off guys who upgrade to metal ones for a couple bucks a set and they take me about 30 seconds to change. I have about $150 worth of mods on it, mainly RPM parts where it matters and a larger center bearing.

I've had my SCX-10 for a year now and all I have broken is the plastic c-hubs before I upgraded them. not counting the ESC and motor I have about $100 in modifications in it.

At first I had more failures due to lost screws than breakage, but I have a small screw kit and a driver set that I pack with me,and now they are all either upgraded, have loc-tite, or get double-checked before I go out.

Focus on one truck. Make it your only project, and eventually it will be pretty close to bullet proof. Once that happens, move on to another.

My problem is, everything interests me so I have a bunch of trucks and only spend time with 4 on a regular basis.

I lost interest cause no one else was running scale trucks close to me, sold one traded the other for a e-maxx , traded the other for a slash 4x4, now instead of the crawlers sitting for weeks at a time, the e-maxx has been untouched for 3 weeks and the slash is in pieces cause it was in crap shape when i got it and is still in crap shape cause I am sick I took the deal. It soured my love of running them. Just focus on one thing. And take time for yourself, crawling doesn't have to be a every weekend thing.

if you race, do NOT bash your race trucks (track practice is differnt), theres nothing more disapointing then breaking a race truck while not in a race. get a dedicated basher for bashing, a basher can have all the downtime it needs but a race truck has to stay running and in good working order all the time.
(a few buddys recently got into bashing, and against my better judgment I grabbed my losi 8ight-e and losi 8eight-t race trucks and headed to the gravel pit with them, after casing the truggy hard and burning the motor up I swithed to the buggy and stripped the servo in only a few min, needless to say I was very mad at myself for taking these out bashing... I now have an E-MAXX) if you want a basher the pede 4x4 you already have will be pretty stout, bashers will break it's nature of the sport.

my SCX10's only upgrades from the RTR model are, aluminum rear lower links, steering servo and motor. other then that its completly stock.

I totally agree with this. Also, some driving styles require your truck to have a "fuse" somewhere that is easily replaceable.

I dont think it has anything to do with the wraith being over hyped.. You cant compare a truck running a 4.25" tire with a truck running a 5.5" tire..

Its just the nature of the beast even in 1:1 the bigger the rig gets the easier it will be to break.. I am sure if you bolt up some 1.9 flat irons to a wraith and drive it the same way you drive a scx10 it would not break anymore then a scx does...

I do agree with you that this guy should clearly dump the Wraith because it sounds like the bigger truck is breaking his wallet and taking the fun out of it for him...

Try cutting back to every other week or once a month. I have two friends that would run crawlers with me two times a week, for almost a year. Now I am the only one that is still into it, and when I see my friends.......crawlers are the last thing they wanna talk about. They just got burnt out.

Every time I get frustrated with my RC's, I shelf them. Drink a beer and remember the good old days of 1:1 wheeling....

.... Of being in a creekbed , 40 degrees outside with raspberry bushes scratching the hell out of me and my High-lift Jack just keeps sinking in the mud instead of lifting up my truck. Removeing 8-lug nuts by hand and wrestling a 200lb, 44" Swamper (muddy and wet by the way) only to discover its not only a broken stub shaft, but a steering knuckle as well.

By the grace of god, a friend just bought a Dana 60 for a swap and allowed me to take the axleshaft and knuckle to get out of the woods.

All is well and good till you realize you can't just trot on down to the local Ford dealer and buy a kingpin knuckle for a Dana 60 anymore. Good luck finding one in a bone yard. Apparently, '78 / '79 Ford Front 60's are popular with the CHEVY crowd who want to solid axle swap their IFS Junk!You have to buy a rotted parts truck from a guy who "Knows what he has" for $1800. FOR A FREAKING KNUCKLE!

Now, Instead of a $4.00 a gallon Diesel pick-up truck, Trailer and required 100 mile road trip to a legal wheeling spot... I toss the wife, kids and everyones crawlers in the trunk of the car and head out to the park.

not rc related... but last year i went through the same thing about lawnmower racing... broke my mower every single race (sometimes every 1-2 weeks, sometimes once a month) its hours to fix... did this for 5-6 months in a row... i was seriously thinkin of throwing in the towel and selling everything and saying **** it....... but if you beef up that part enough it WILL STOP breaking..

what kept me going is the camping weekends, sitting around the campfire or in a circle drinking beer most of the night and bullshitting with the guys i dont get to do with during the week.. i got the mower beefed up now and it aint breaking any time soon:mrgreen:.. if your buying brand new parts they are expensive to fix, but like anything else if you shop around or know people in the hobby the make a deal... trade, sell, buy... whatever... doesnt matter..


my savage is the same thing your talking about.. upgrade something and something else breaks.. but to be lightly..... thats the way hobbies are.. i have 2000.00 into my savage 25...am i happy to tell people that? friggin rights i am.. why?? because the look on the people's faces are priceless...

i have a 2000.00 savage, two crawlers and got about 550.00 into each of them and got 2 racing mowers and got about 500.00 or so into each of them.....


needless to say i love racing, i hate the fixing part and some of the building part but i have a smile from ear to ear when i get a mower.. :mrgreen: maybe you just need to "take a break" for a while.. another example, my mom showed goats for 13yrs she decided to sell all her show goats (we went to a our local fall fair (an event we've attended the last 13yrs) and my mom was helping out other people and finds she misses it so guess what we're doing next year:roll::lmao:
