Hi,

I decided to begin new a projet starting from AR60 axle, I find it very interesting "thumbsup" .

I thus start by making work the credit card :
  • AX30831 AR60 OCP Front Axle Set
  • Vanquish Wraith, Ridgecrest, Aluminum Knuckles
  • Vanquish XR10, Wraith, Ridgecrest Incision C Hubs
  • Ax30780 Axial Wraith, Ridgecrest Universal Set

The frame will be the same one as my sportman, but with a AR60 axle.
Manufacturing of a first prototype, a support for the servo/4 links






Steering angle is impressive, 10° moreover than with my ax10 sportman :shock:
I do not know if the axial universal set will support works with such an angle, that will be the occasion to test the famous Super 300 HD :mrgreen:



A first overall picture of the project, I received my upper carbon frame by Tomi. Super job on the way "thumbsup""thumbsup"




It remains still much of work, but I start with really likes these axle :twisted::twisted:
 
Wow that steering angle is awesome! I am starting to see the appeal of that axle. The more I see all the slick builds on here the more I want to give my credit card a workout too.
 
This whole car is impressive!. Completely unique design of the chassis and tranny. Great work! Big thumb up

The support of battery is made, it passes just between the front lower links.


The support is fixed on a reinforcement between the axle and the support of servo.




I must install the electro one and I will be able to begin the tests :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Yep, the front X brace rigidifies the frame enormously and weighs only 6g :mrgreen:


Some news, front axle (prototype) is finalized



Margouillat AR60 ready to run



First test and it is not too badly for a beginning :roll:

First problem, foreseeable, the front axle hangs everywhere… I will stick a piece of tube PVC to make it unrippled.



After some tests, I changed the front shock. They were into semi-droop, and I put the normal ones with springs pink :lmao:



The behavior is much better with very light torque twist, but I should be able to decrease.

no news, this project is stopped for the moment.
The configuration of the front axle is interesting, but generates much torque twist… It is an interesting problem, but I returned to the AX-10 axle. It is necessary to go to the drawing board and to re-examine the fitting of the front axle.

Some news. I was not satisfied with the previous configuration, therefore after having looked at different construction starting withf AR60 axle, I took again the project.

Two supports cut in a “aluminum L” of 4mm thickness.


Supports in place.


The 2 supports are intercalated between the axle and the supports of links/shock.

The cycle of operation of the steering rod is correct.








It remains much of point to regulate, but for a first proto, I like the fitting of the unit. That seems to me promising :mrgreen:

Hi,

I make a prototype of frame for to work on the geometry of the links and general architecture. I did not have any more a delrin, I thus did it out of aluminum 3mm...

The idea of this frame is to have links a little more longer compared to Margouillat AX-10, especially on the front, to see whether that influences the behavior of crawler. Now, the upper and lower front links are appreciably the same length (4.45" upper. and 4.6" lower). The lower back bonds will be fixed differently and longer, but the skid should me be modified. The lower rear links will be fixed differently and more longer, but the skid should me be modified.

Very interesting approach to servo mounting. I prefer the previous servo placement better though as it looks like the new location has quite a potential for hang ups. New design does look promising though.

Have you tried more triangulation of you front lower links? Perhaps mounting them similar to the rear of the skid?
 
Hi,

I do not think that the servo hangs, but only the tests will confirm it. The servo is behind the tube of the axle and does not exceed, but I have the possibility of placing small skid under the servo , if that hangs. I appreciate this configuration of servo because it is placed very low and the kinematics of the rod of direction is good, without parasitic effect (the rod of direction remains parallel to the axle all the time).

I cannot more triangulate the front lower links because they would touch the motor. This configuration with the engine forwards is a personal choice which has some constraints but I like. Like any choice, there are advantages and disadvantages.

But it remains much of modifications to make, before hoping to start to scrape rocks. I will re-examine the fixing of the front shock because they are too much drawn aside and touch the wheels in full steering.
 
Hi,

I made a new supports of links/shocks for the front axle.


Thus the tires do not rub any more and I benefit from the maximum angle of the steering :mrgreen:.
With the carbone wheel, I use a small hub, 350, the axle track is 27.5cm - 10.8".




The front shock are more tilted.

Keep up the good work. I've been toying with going to an AR60 front because of the extra amount of steering the axle allows. However, fighting the servo location and link geometry has me hesitant.

For the moment I still seek the good configuration, before changing my old AX-10 axle by AR60 axle. But it remains still much of work :mrgreen:
