Well, it has begun. My e-maxx is in peices. I have locked the axles, bought the materials, and enlisted the help of a local friend Cole82 for help on the chassis and links. I like his work he did on his stick. I have built clod chassis, but for a competition grade crawler where geometry and set-up is key, My skills are not that finely tuned. Specs as of yet:

Imex Red Rock tires
Integy 55t lathe motor
jr high torque servos front and rear
EVX
76 tooth robinson steel spur
9 tooth pinion
locked e-maxx axles
revo driveshafts
dubro ball ends
dynamite CVDs

Rims?? Suggestions for a cheap scale look?

I have left the chassis design up to Cole entirely, so I will be as interested to see what he comes up with as you guys.... I wont know until he posts pics on here!
Stay tuned for progress! :-P

Allright I've been looking at these parts and on here. It looks Like I will be makeing axles out off medium density polyethylene. As well as the skid/ tranny mount. The axles will be high clearance angled up. The tranny will be a laydown style for better CG. The battery on the axle. Since it works so well on the clods. A standard triangulated four link for the suspension.

Those red rock krawler tires are unreal sticky. They are stickier thanmy brand new moabs, that came in the mail today. They are also taller. Bottum line they look good so far.

Crawlerman I'm still worried about those ball links breaking. We can change those if they break. I'll use that solid round aluminum. Other wise I will use that huge hex stuff if you would rather have that.

its up to you, if you can find some 1/4 inch for the links that would be great, I couldnt find any for the life of me!

I started it today. First tried to make the solid axle plates. By heating it up the plastic then bending it. Found out as it cools it changes shape. I couldn't get them up to my standards. So for now the a-arm lock out will stay. After failling at the axles I moved onto the chassis. Began cutting it out getting it to fit snug around the tranny. I don't like how wide it is, tomorrow I will machine cut outs. Then the tranny will stick out the sides a little. Then the chassis will be to my likeing. It's still not close to done though. More holes and more thinking.

Cole, I am speachless, that is too cool man.... It will slide over rocks like Butter! HA HA HA!! I cant wait... Are those the final tranny mounts? let me know on anything else you need, I have the day off tomorrow, feel free to call me, probably wont be on here much though.:) ;-)

I've got to make a copy of the angle alumunum piece for the top, but basically yes. Glad you like it.
I was watching porn when a shot like this came on. That's where the shape came from.

I don't even want to know where the idea of the Shockless Stick came from.

Chassis looks good, your right though it needs to be narrowed down a bit. :)

I narrowed it up last night and drilled some holes today.
Might need to cut a little off each end to clear the axle. That's not a problem though. Some wheel hexs and wheel nuts would be nice to have. ;-)

Yeah looks good! I saw those red rock tires at a LHS last night they are nice and tall I think they will work great on this project. Chassis looks big but once you get the other stuff mounted it should equal out. Are you going to mill some holes in it for lightness and style? You are converting a 2.5 maxx right? Soya's was always to narrow. Thats good that you offset the output I've read that can help eliminate some of the torque twist. So you are just going to use one motor? Getting a reduction unit? Soya's truck struggles with torque with two lathe motors. Maxx trucks have alot of drivetrain. But I guess Gregs txt-1 seems to hum along just fine with one stock motor. I'd go with a 1/4 bent link setup for a shafty cause as you know that is what works well for our type of rock crawling. Bent links do put a large amount of stress on the ballends do to the angle. Revo ends might be better I think they use a 10-32 stud.

Glad you like my rig so far Mnster! The redrocks are sweet, ultra sticky, hard to get out of the bag! At our get together I ran one stock Emaxx titan motor with a nine tooth and a 76 tooth spur. That gave me way more torque than I know what to do with. This truck will be much lighter and be using the lathe motor. 2.5 maxx??? I am using the same independent emaxx as I took with us to the lake for this transformation. I wouldnt have necessarily gone with a solid axle since the truck did all right independent until I broke 2 sliders, but getting center clearance soon became a focus, and so it began! If my new lathe motor has near as much torque as a stock titan, I am set to go!

Updated specs:

new Imex Red Rocks on narrowed rims
55t lathe motor new from integy
Front axle mounted battery pack
twin JR metal gear 140oz servos for steering front and rear
Laydown style transmision
steel 76 tooth robinson spur
9 tooth robinson pinion
EVX speed control wired for one battery
Locked maxx axles
Revo shafts (in the mail)
Dynamite CVDs (in the mail)
Dubro ball ends
Custom "Cole Built" crawler chassis

Hopefully it will be done for the April Fools crawl! Cant wait to let it rip!:) ;-)

Mnster this is a narrow one pre 2.5. We've allready talked about getting bigger ball links. The bottom links are so big I can't bend them with my one and only arm. I think a narrow truck actually helps. What do I know I just WOT all the time. It doesn't need to be any light really it wieghed 2.5onces before making the cut outs and narrowing it. The four links wiegh more than the chassis.

I've got the 4 lower links made and mounted. The links take for ever to make. It's sitting at a 17" wb right now. Eating lunch right now then will make the uppers. Crawlerman do you want it to be more fancy like we were talking about at the LHS.

Fancy is good. The more I think about it the more I think some small "fancy" cutouts would be really nice. Rectanguler perhaps? TXT style might look neat, just not too large as to weaken the overall chassis or anything. Then again, you know more about that than I do. I too think I will need to order larger ball ends here too the more I think about it. Well, I am headed to work in a little while, cant wait to see the updated pics later!;-)

Here are some pics. This is a lot more work than the shockless stick was.
I'm dyeing the rims right now. Another 1/2-1hour they will be done with another pic.
