Maxxmasher's Double cab Hilux build!

I made it to the hobby shop and picked up a set of Micro T shocks. I wish they sold these in pairs, so I could get two sets of rears. It's alright though, I really only need the to replace the rears. Due to the angle of the front shocks, the front sits low enough.

Took apart the stockers to swap out the caps.

Mounted up and ready to go. I took off a few of the coils to allow a bit of droop.

I also picked up some magnets to better attatch the hood. It was fine at first, but after a few roll-overs, it kept popping off.

I glued them to some dense foam to raise them up to hood level....

and attatched a couple of metal strips to the underside of the hood.

While picking the magnets up, I spotted these.....

which make for some good tow mounts.

I also got into taking apart the wheels to add a bit of wieght and to star-cut the foams.....

I added a few wraps of solder to the rim and did a little work with a razor....

102_3955.jpg

And then I decided to paint the centers with a little chrome silver.

For the fronts, I'll use these for more weight and skip the foams all together. These will suffice until I get some proper beadlocks.

I also grabbed this guy.....

Gotta have someone riding shotgun! (I threw the rears on one side to see how they look. I'll get to the front wheels a little later on...)

I decided to add a final touch to the front of my micro by adding a fairlead and a winch cable. The clasps I picked up were the perfet size.

My home-made fairlead - a piece of plastruct and a little silver paint.

My "cable" and winch hook

The completed project - added some hook mounts, too.

I finally got around to getting some lipo's to run in my micro scalers. My Bro-in-law was coming for the long Thanksgiving weekend and I knew with us running both of my micros, we'd need a little increase in run-times. I didn't keep track, but these things seem to last forever! I ended up getting two Thunder power 2S 325 Mah 45C lipos. They're a little bigger than the stockers, but they fit fine in the scalers. These would be too big to use with the stock crawler without modification. I still have useable low-speed control thanks to the settings on my Spektrum radio, but the tires almost balloon when I smack the throttle! I do have to be careful though, as like many have found, the stock motor will heat up a bit. I keep the temp gun handy now, and give the trucks a break when the can is a bit too warm....

Tight fit, but it works!

Plenty of packs for almost non-stop running!

I've been running the truck pretty hard and I ended up breaking the frame. I had already fixed it twice, so this time I decided to get some brass and craft one up myself. I considered trying my hand at using silver solder, but I've never done that before, so I used some small screws to make everything.

I also picked up this Mini-T screw set when the guy at the shop offered it up for half price.

102_4188.jpg

Had to pretty much tear apart the truck

102_4173.jpg

Lots of screws, but it's nice and solid

102_4176.jpg

I also gave it all a couple of coats of flat black

102_4182.jpg

I decided to change the position of the front shocks, so I also had to make some new front links with a slight bend because they were rubbing on the shock bodies. Just using the white ball-ends for now. Gotta get some black ones to match the others.

A little tape to get the bed to line up while I mark the holes to secure the bed.

102_4181.jpg

Everything came out pretty good. Rock-solid now!

I also got some new wheels and tires recently, as I mentioned in another thread....
