There are the ones where its rounded around the screws, and the ones
where its flat and beveled around the screws.. which is one is which, and why? Is it just for looks or is there a purpose?

The ones that have a little "vp" on them are outers. Inners are a little thinner possibly for knuckle clearance, outers are spot faced possibly so the screws won't hang up on rocks as you are flailing around the course-ooh burn!
