Mini Giant Bronko Crawler

Great job on the Build, and on the cutting of the tires! :O:O:O I was thinking of doing this mod to my Leo-X :) Narrowed and cut losi blues (tho :P)... That big disk, is it for an angle grinder and adapted to a drill press ... :?

Btw, the batteries.. are they ABOVE the tranny? Isn't that kinda high for a CoG? Mine are around"ish" the tranny in the stock chassis (stock chassis, stock links :P).. Still looking for a way to extend my WB, the problems is, i can't find the materials to do the extension of the dog bones.

This project just about died after I shortened the wheelbase to 6.5" to better fit the Bronko body. It created all sorts of clearance issues that I didn't predict :|. I got frustrated and just let it sit for a while.

I figured out how I would fix things a while back. I decided to change the suspension to a semi-droop setup to get the ride height that I wanted and lower the mounting point for the upper links to give them a bit more clearance for the motor. I just wasn't motivated to do anything with it.

I recently found some inspiration to finish up all my old projects and I finally got around to making the mods that I dreamed up months ago. Things worked out pretty well.

First of all I had to modify the shocks to work with a droop suspension. I got lucky and found some soft springs that fit inside the tiny Venom shocks. Based on some previous experimentation with these shocks I used 100wt Losi shock oil.

After modifying the shocks I had to move the mounting point for the upper links down so that they would not interfere with motor. I also had to move the shock mounting points in because of the drastically different ride height and wheelbase. I drilled some new holes in the old chassis. You can see the old holes as well as the new mounting locations in the first pic. The second pic shows the rear droop setup.

Just a few details remained now. I made some body mounts out of TLT body posts, and some fuel tubing. It just happened to work out that I could use the old shock mounting holes for the body mount posts. It wasn't ideal, but meant less swiss cheese factor for the chassis. I also mounted the electronics. I went with a Losi MRC speed control, Futaba reciever, and a 800 MAH E-Flite Li-Po battery.

I painted the body competition orange with some simple black details, because I had that paint at the house and I was in a hurry to finish it.

I got to drive it a bit on the rocks tonight and it works pretty well for what it is. The suspension needs a little tuning, but other than that and some wheel weights I'm going to call it done now! 8) Here are a few more pics:

Well done build. Looks great. Im glad you finished it.

That's an awsome mini dude ! i like it !
How did it preforme on the rock's ?:)

i cant wait to see some pics on the rocks

Glad to see this little guy make it back from the dead!! Cool conversion, but where are the rock pictures!?!

Thanks for all the kind words. It was too late and dark for rock pics when I finished it last night. I'll try to get some today.

I added 1 oz of weight to each front wheel and 1/2 oz to each rear I also doubled up the springs in the shocks to try make the suspension more stable. Then I took out on the rocks again. It performed much better than expected. "thumbsup"Here are some action shots.

Thanks for all the comments. The boys and I are having a blast with this thing!

NICE build lets see a video.... please

I stripped out the rear output of the trans and it took a while to get a replacement. I finally got it fixed so here is a video of my son driving on the rocks in our yard.
