Recently got stuck, recently got some tools to help make recovery faster in the future. one of them is a HiLift

Mounting recommendations in a small pickup? I've also considered a shallow truck box and stuff all my current gear and tools from in the cab into the box with the HiLift on top. Truck is a little hardbody pickup.

A great multipurpose to have and a dangerous one if you are unfamiliar with it. 3/8 bolts through the side bed with fender washers and cotter or hitch pins through the bolts is about as cheap and secure you would get. Keep a can of lubricant for it too. Get a section of hose around the bolt too so the rattling doesn’t drive you crazy. I have a truck box at the front of the bed to secure my stuff. Even if it’s in a box I would still secure it down, just for safety.

If it's exposed to the elements, plan to carry a can of wd40 or other lubricant to make sure it operates smoothly when you need it. The pins can get sticky and make it a pain to use.

I have hit Google. 90% or better of the google results are things to mount on jeeps and most of the rest are using the rail system in Toyotas.

I am considering the 4xroc mounts. Just concerned about bed wall strength.

A truck box is in consideration though the bed is already tiny enough I don't want a huge, deep box. Something that maybe take up a foot or so of the bed would hold everything I need.

Hmmmm, mayI suggests: to a sturdy part of the bed, somewhere, you can reach to, within
a bedload full of crap without having to shuffle the or most of the load....

I'm thinking over a wheelwell or in a box at the front.

I need to go wander through some places that do truck boxes and see if there is anything narrow.

Mount it to the bed wall, but have the wieght resting on the wheelwell. Add a piece of rubber to the wheelwell if you wish.
