Just bought a scx10 chassis, I've never actually built a rig, just always bought it already done. I need some hints, tricks, tips, ideas. I know i'm going to use a jeep Cherokee body, other than that i'm open. Help me guys.

Choose a budget and then make a list of parts that fit it. ;)

First things you should do are steering mods, like universals/VVDs, c-hubs, knuckles and a decent servo to throw your front tires around, which brings us to tires. Pick a tire you want and get some beadlocks so you don't have to glue and can reuse both wheels and tires later if you decide to. After that, look into upgrading your transmission gears and diff lockers. Pick brushed or brushless and get your rig driving, then you'll find weaknesses or characteristics that you need to change. Your terrain and driving style will depict some of that.

Most of all, have fun!

Why not do the research and decide on what you want? Are you building it for scale, speed, competition? There's tons of info in the scx10 threads, do some searching and decide on what parts suit your needs.

Look at wronchos.. they are a blast to drive. RPP has a salvage section that is great place to find parts

Save axles for later on, honestly the plastic housings slide over the rocks really nice. Focus on internals and driveline first, unless you want to go for a full build right out of the gate.

Imo if your going for a ground up start with axles first. Most run different length links and everything is based off them. What are you looking to do crawl, trail, mix of both? You can't go wrong with stock, ar60, vanquish, ssd, or ottsix axles. Just depends on how much you wanna spend and the look your going for. I run all my scx10s with brushed motors 2 have Holmes 20t 500 pullers, one 35t torque master, and a 50t Novak rockstar all on 3s. If your looking for smooth start up get a 5 armature crawler motor lIke a crawlmaster.

By chassis I assume you mean just the frame and cross members and nothing else?

are you going to use a lexan cherokee body or hard body? Interior or no? planning to comp? do you rock crawl or trail? have you owned a rtr scx10 before?

I acctualy suggest you do a search for Cherokee builds on this site and also look at a bunch of the builds in the 1.55, 1.9 and 2.2 scale sections and see how people are building their rigs.
