I was like most people could not wait to get this truck, I have driven/competed with a gc-2 for a coulpe of years now and a gc-1 the season before that,so the losi seemded like an easy jump front and rear dig in the tranny ,WOW. No more broken drive lines burnt up servos , very simmilar geometry. This was to be awesome ! I saved up got one out of the first batch. I was so happy to find the thread about using an e maxx motor , with a tekin fxr. I had that esc in the gc-2 and I could afford the e maxx motor. So I put it togther . every thing fit so nice it was butter!!!!!!!
Then we go out at midnight friday to the carport set the truck down drive about five feet and the front dig kicks in.I have not put the dig servo in yet so that is odd . I pick it up and the front shaft fell out. This is my fault ,I know to check every thing before you run a truck, even though it is a roller when you get it. I sent a pm to Rich what a guy he tells me the factory should have had that tight and will send me the replacement parts ! awesome! so there was a comp the following sat. I had no parts ,there is no REAL local hobby shops (trains and models ) so I went with a quick fix put a e maxx body clip through it. This will work untill I get the parts !!
I had some stripping of the hex problems with the front wheels (also my fault, check every thing ) I chose not to bother Ritch with this one , I ordered a set of j concepts new wheels ,and the set of wheels weights. I open the box friday night before the comp on saturday, These are awesome wheels go together great seem to be just what I wanted, the two rings that hole the weights on are made to bolt on the weight. I have one that is like that and one that is stock. E mail sent four weeks ago not heard back yet.(might have not gone through,or something these guys are supposed to be great,So I will wait)
The e maxx motor is very heavy so I mounted the front wheels with the extra weight on the oppisite side to help counter it.
The spetrum radio come unbound , the third chan. is not barelyworking the servo BUT I will get through the comp !
The dig servo got a mind of its own on the second course I could not stop the bledding it was bad. How ever the first and third course the losi did an awesome job !!!!!!!! this thing is an awesome , when it is working.
The following week some guys come over to play on the rocks at my house smoke comes comes out of the e maxx motor. (this is only pack three in the truck) I look in the can and a brush has come lose and is shorting out on the comm.
Today we go to a get togther,on the first pack I roll over and pick up the truck the lower link catches my eye! WOW ! I now have the first ever low clearance link ! the massive heat from the 550 motor has heated the rod end untill it drooped down about an 1/4 inch behind the tranny. ok it is still in tack so we go to the next course I pull up on a small ledge and the truck stops. the other rear lower link has broken.(this is pack 5)
MAYBEE I am bad luck I am an idiot ! some of this is all me I know but man am I jinxed ? did someone put a curse on me?
I am however glad to say I have not given up on this truck, Thinking about the moa conv. and a punk dig, any one a fire ext. I can borrow for my test run !!sorry about the book, thought you might enjoy this though

...............................ok, a little fan on the motor might get you a little more time on the rocks without bending links  im guessing it is the rod ends you are talking about, the fan might cool the motor down a little and help the motor from burning up. Or drop the cash a pick up a brushless set up.

oh and kikcaffine the correct usage of that is "holy wall of text batman!"

I gave the gc-2 to my son for his comp truck. I have thought of trade backs but I will keep on with the losi. season is over so I will have a while. mucho texto and belive it or not I left a couple of things out !
I am the dream r&d test pilot. I run a tlt based comp rig for allmost three seasons without ever breaking a part. two on a home brewed chassis and the third on the gc-1. so this carnage is new to me ,as far as the rocks go!

The maxx motor has afan built into it!how many fans on a truck do I need (two maybee?) yes the plastic rod end. brushless set up cost is the reason for the e maxx motor. lol I wish I could post a pic of the bottom of the truck on here (no star ) so everyone could see the body clip in the front shaft the low clearance link on one side and the broken link on the other ! with hardly any scrathces on the links or tranny plate!

If your generating all that heat I'd figure out why. If you don't find anything, I would suggest buying a infrared temp gun. I mean talk about thermal, I've never seen a motor get that hot. When I firts got mine, I burnt up a titan550. I went brushles and got a temp gun. After replacing improperly cut gear in the axles, my temps have barely gone over 110. In my case the gears were my whole problem. You should also go over the whole crawler putting loctite where needed.

+1 with Tydl.

The first thing I did when I got my early production batch roller was to disassemble it and rebuild it completely. I do not and never will trust the build quality of a factory worker. I found that they did not loc-tite the CV pins in the axles and drive shafts but they did loc-tite the screws that go into the lock nuts (go figure). I rebuilt the shock becasue they were inconsistent in oil but reasonable tight.

I had a couple problems such as the original axles snapping at the ball and a bent e clip on the shift fork allowing the fork to slip and not engage the dig. Once I received the new replacement axles from Losi not one has snapped and that's been over a month and two comps with lots of practice. The only thing that has broken since is the idler gear and that's because I locked down the slipper.

Anything else that will go wrong will be all user error.

So far I like the rig, it is much better than my Axial which I spent a small fortune on to make it comp worthy. In contrast, I've been doing better with the Losi just by adding weight to the wheels, lowering the battery and using pink springs at the rear. I lowered the CG and ride height (2.5"). Installed a Spektrum Micro Rx, Hobbico CS-170 servo, Losi MRC servo, Tekin RS esc, CCBEC, Speed Passion 17.5, 12T pinion and a G-Force 1300mah 3S Lipo.

Definately take the axles apart and check the gears. If they're cut wrong, get the replacements. When you put the axles back together, use a good quality, teflon impregnated gear grease (such as Rocksmith's Gear Jelly). The more smoothly you can get the axles to work, the cooler your motor will run.

I had checked the rear axle allready, it had seemed a little to hot but it was wearing ok and had grease . I will take it all the way appart this time .I had never really noticed the front axle or motor temps getting very high.To be honest I have yet to really get any real time in driving this truck, breaks etc.. The comp curses were not that long time wise. With the troubles I have yet to take the truck out for a good long session.Taking the step over from the gc=2 to the losi ,was very smooth not too much diffent. I lowered the ride height and the lipo for the c.o.g. The axles cycle is so vey smooth .I realy like this platform. and I am still detirmend to get through this, but it just seems like I cannot catch a break with this,,at least not yet

Yes, it has grease from the factory, but if you want to control temperature & wear, you'll need a better grease. I use Gear Jelly, with little teflon beads in it. There are a few other similar greases used in racing that will also work well enough.

I highly reccomend taking any RTR or ARTR apart & checking/lubing everything before running it. I just don't trust the factories.

It's my opinion that Losi released that absolute most ready for serious competition straight from the box of any major manufacturer yet. However, it's mass produced so a little lower on QC than a build it yourself. Just take the time to do things right, and eventually you'll get the bugs worked out.

There's one guy in our club that has one, and after several test & tune sessions, he cleaned up at our last comp.

NOPE she has been retired for the third and final time. there was no longer enough of her left to zip tie ie or tape together. She has a child named ZIP tie whom joined the army there is some pics of her on here some where. any way belive it or not I am running a shinny new body with graphics,no mud/dirt paint or fake sheetmetal damage! Hey maybe you fixed that is why I am breaking stuff !!!!!!!!I need to put on the old crappy looking body then she well be good !!!!!!!!!!!all you in ga. doing good ?
