Locally there have been a few different scale comps popping up which run standard rules but without counting scale points. That combined with the intro of the new performance scale class that was ran at worlds has prompted me to build a new “class 2” truck. I’ll be keeping my current C2 truck for general driving as well as comps that do count scale points though. Build specs to follow

Axles:
Scx10 housings
Brass narrow xr beef tubes front
Brass tubes rear (undecided if they will stay)
Brass Dlux knuckles with tungsten slugs and cf arms
Narrowed xr universals
Vp c hubs
Locked up rc spools
OD/UD
Dlux trusses front and rear

Driveline:
Dlux hamberger
Saf gears
Ti shaft
Sdi 5mm prop shafts

Chassis:
Team gspeed v2
Strc rear honcho cross member
Crc front cross member and bumper
Rpm sliders

Suspension:
Traxxas 2660 big bores with cap mod
Ti upper and lower links

Tires and wheels:
Ottsix gold voodoo klr tires
Crawler innovations 4.25 foams
Vanquish knockoffs

Electronics:
Team brood vigor 4 pole motor
Castle micro x crawler edition
Hitec 7950
Removable low profile winch servo/LURC spool
Castle bec
Futaba 4pv

Started by getting the axles together

Then got to doing the cap mod on the shocks. Threw on some red mini t springs but they feel too stiff. Will probably switch to pinks

Put the chassis together using some 70 mm standoffs as braces. Got the front bumper mounted aswell although that might change. I forgot to take a picture before putting the rear links on

Found some bent ti links leftover from previous projects that look like they will be a perfect fit putting the wheelbase just under 12.5 inches. I threw some traxxas pushrods on as uppers for mock-up. The pushrods will be replaces with ti once I confirm the wheelbase and set pinion angles

Had to put the tires on to see how it looks. Tomorrow I will trim up a body and mount it up to see how everything clears. Once I do that and finalize axle locations I will move on to installing the rest of the drivetrain.

Got the trans built tonight. I had to modify it from it initial configuration to work out how I want with the motor forward and the drive shafts offset to the left side of the truck. It’s technically reversed and mirrored from how they are normally sold. Sneak peak at the power plant aswell. Team brood vigor 2600kv

Mounted up in the truck. Also swapped the crc bumper for an aluminum vanquish ripper bumper. I’m not entirely happy with the shocks right now. They are very sticky and dumping oil right out of the package. I use these same shocks or the dravtech version on almost everything I have so I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m going to throw a fresh rebuild in them with greased o-rings and see what happens. I also have some egressor scx comp shocks that I might put on aswell

Sounds like they are overfilled.... Hydro locked from air? Nice rig so far...."thumbsup"

Not at all. And even if they were most of the oil is on the axles now anyways. :lmao: I’ve been running big bores for a long time on many different trucks, and this is the first set to feel like this

I was looking at the Comanchee body the other day but as boring and predictable as I am, I ended up ordering another PW body. I'm so boring.

I got the big bores swapped out to scx shocks with egressor bodies. I did this for two reasons. First the big bores were a little bit short on travel, the egressor/scx shock is the same length but offers a longer stroke. Second, I found the grinding feeling my big bores had was due to some random metal shavings in the shock bodies underneath the piston. These metal shavings killer the seals in 2 of them, and I didn’t feel like rebuilding them now.

I also got my upper links done out of 3/16 ti like the lowers. The front uppers are pretty crazy since they have to wrap around the motor and bend around the servo. As of now everything clears, I get full stroke on all 4 shocks with no binding and it should be good to go

I ended up not liking the link geometry I had with the Dlux trusses so I ended up making new upper links and a front servo mount (slightly modified gc3 style plate made of carbon fiber). For the rear I swapped to the gearhead rc 4 link mount with the uppers mounted outside the tabs. You can also see the shortened some sdi shafts and modified scx10-2 side pods. I’m not sure I’m going to keep the side pods but I’m going to give them a try before making something out of aluminum.

Finally got the body all trimmed and mounted. Had to cut a huge hole in the bed to get it as low as I wanted. I’m not entirely sure I like how it came out. A suv body might suit it better to keep the height in check.

Got the all wired up. Mamba micro x, futaba 2104gfe rx and a castle bec all on the drivers side plate. 1300 mah tattu 3s goes on the passengers side plate. The wiring came out pretty good I think. I need to order a shorter sensor wire and it should be good.

Also I added some final touches to the body, colored in the cowl vents, and installed a cut down proline interior.

Center of gravity is pretty good too

This is what happens when a comp guy builds a scaler.
I'm sure it will pass sorcca rules.

It will pass every sorrca rule if I paint the knuckles. What’s crazy is it balances on its sidewalls with soft 4.25 crawler innovations foams and over 3 inches of belly clearance at the front of the skid. I still need to add a winch servo, but that will be pretty easy I think. I only plan on using it at events that don’t count scale points. I got my red samurai that is a 50 point truck for the events that do

I was trying to be funny..lol how much does the rig weigh in @ RTR?

I just recently read the sorcca rules set when I built my C2 rig I'm not a fan of scale points. I have a way to go before I max out on scale points... my truck sets @ 33 scale points.

With all your new build threads how long before we see a super build?

Looks like almost exactly 5.5 pounds Matt

The super is probably a couple months out. Definitely before the summer when comp season comes around. I’ve had a set of superlites aswell as everything else sitting in a box for the past 2 months, so that will be the next build.
