New comp spots ?????

That place looks great Kev..Lets see if we can find out who we need to talk to and get permission to run there "thumbsup""thumbsup"

No permission needed. There are no fees... it's a free area. I'll double check to be sure though..."thumbsup"
How about a map quest link , dog tags , HILL BILLY destructions , something to that place . :-P

Read below. It's like the Ocoee as far as people just go there to hike and hang out, (only fewer people) but if someone wants to call during the morning or afternoon hours the number is below. I can't call from work and they are gone by the time I usually get home. I'll see if my wife will call too.

South Trail Office, 1327 Montlake Road, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379 or P.O. Box 571 Soddy Daisy, TN 37384, phone (423) 332-7394PUBLIC ACCESS:
Public access is allowed; parking and hiking trails are provided. The natural area has 10.5 miles of hiking trails. Backcountry camping is by permit only, call (423) 332–7394 for backcountry camping information and permit.
DIRECTIONS:

Laurel-Snow is located north of Dayton and is accessible via Highway 27/29. From the north turn right, and from the south turn left, onto Walnut Grove Road north of Dayton (new Eckerd Drug on corner). Proceed 3/4 of a mile to Back Valley Road (pass La-Z-Boy factory) and turn left. On Back Valley Road, proceed 0.7 miles to an unmarked gravel road/Richland Creek Road (small white church on the left) and turn right. Proceed about 1 mile to the parking area at the end of Richland Creek Road.

EDIT: Not an Ekerd anymore... its a Rite Aid. And the gravel road is marked with the sign in the pic now.

well never mind it is 153 miles to Dayton for me . Thought it might be closer than that .

Does 75 miles sound better? I'm working on two places just outside of Monteagle TN. that look a lot like the Dayton place. One is private land, the other is a rock climbing park "thumbsup"

yep "thumbsup"

Tip: It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission!!

I called the Dayton place and the guy hem-hawed around and never gave me an answer. He said he would ask his supervisor and call me back. Well he never did, so I'm going to assume that means it's OK. 8)

Honestly... I don't think they woould have ever thought twice if they happened by and saw us there... but now that I have called, thay might think more about it if they see a group there with R/Cs.

I found the guy who runs the cherokee removal park and he was excited about us having comps their and said he would even help promote them :shock:
I'm going to call him again and setup a time we can meet him there and really check the place out and he also said there are rocks everywhere back in there "thumbsup""thumbsup"

Great man! Good job. The dude from Dayton called me back finally. He said since it is a state natural area... it's a NO Go there.

When is the Removal Park going to open? Do we get to go look before it opens? When do you want to go?"thumbsup"

They are having a car show there on NOV 1st...Maybe then :?: I'll ask him for sure and maybe we can take the crawlers and check out the rocks and the cars

OK Kev we are going to the Cherokee park Sat around 8:00 or so to check it out and they are having a car show from 9:00 till 2:00 so it may be a little crowded  I talked to Bill the guy who runs it this morning and he said that we could come out and run the crawlers..So we will see ya there "thumbsup"

Oh my goodness, it's like a mini Buck's Pocket. Would be sweet to have a comp there.

I didn't really know what time you were going, so I planned on trying to finish up my "chores" and get there between 1 and 2.

I would put off my chores, but I have a group of guys coming to help me get everything ready for my 4x4 clubs 1:1 comp we are having next weekend. We have to clear the bushes off a couple of the courses and fill in a hole, but we might be done by noon. I'll get there as early as I can... maybe I can catch you. I'm taking the video camera, and if you are there and gone before I get there, take some pics of the crawlers on the rocks so everyone can see the size and potential of the place"thumbsup"

By the way... If the place looks good enough for 3 courses and a finals course... lets put together an Axletwisters.ning.com / Cleveland Crawlers Comp there for sometime before Thanksgiving. All the ones I have seen coming up soon are too far away.

EDIT: OK maybe a December comp there. I just saw the post about ETRC's November comp and signed up !!

Found this place while out riding my bike this evening. Been there 100 times and never noticed these rocks. It looks like a good comp spot. THere is parking close, porta johns, and it's a recreation area. Chilohowee to be exact, behind the overflow camping area just in the edge of the woods. This time of year its deserted... so no crowds.

I got some pics with the phone. It looks like there is enough there for several courses (even a couple of super courses). I'm going back this week with the crawler to check out some lines. "thumbsup"

These are just shots of the biggest rocks. There are a bunch more about the size of the northshore waterfall place.
