New future body, or just talk about it.

i also shopped for mid sized and when i say mid sized i mean taco.
the prices were so high, just like mewalsh said, for the price of a used taco i got myself a fullsized F150 that can ACTUALLY TOW.

and yes i need 4 doors because i have a wife and 3 kids. i need a shortbed because the 4 door is already long enough to make daily driving a PITA.

and i have the ford 10 speed and its been SOLID.
i DO wish trucks were affordable. i got mine for less than a used taco but still spent almost 40. at least i got everything i wanted, and nothing i didn't. its an STX 4WD with FX4 package and tow package, 3.55 gears with rear e-locker, 39 gal fuel tank and its got the 3.5 ecoboost. rip-snorting power in a truck lighter than a raptor. i haven't been able to line up with a raptor at a stoplight yet but im willing to bet it would be close.
absolutely LOVE this truck!!!

i have high hopes for the return of the bronco. if it could tow my 5,000lbs camper trailer (soon to be 9,000 when i get a baja bug) i might be interested enough to buy one. (another reason taco lost)

I paid way less than $40K for my new Taco and that is including the lift, skid plates, bumpers, wheels, and tires I have done since buying it. Maybe I should head out your way and sell it, sound like an easy $60K in my pocket. :lmao:

That's insane if you bought new. What model did you get?

I ran into the same issue when I was truck shopping. An 8-10 year old 4 door Taco was going to run me somewhere near $25k. The 8 year old Silverado I bought was $20k, which was still on the higher side of the price range for that particular truck, but substantially cheaper than a Taco, and actually has a usable 6.5' bed compared to the toy box in the back of a 4 door Taco, plus the proper number of cylinders up front.

Why didn't you just buy the Sport? I'm assuming you got a better deal this way, but just checking.

Yeah, they were more willing to deal on the lower trim level. The main differences between the 2 were either cosmetic or convenience features that I didn't really care about. The only option that I didn't get is the locking rear diff but that requires stepping all the way up to the TRD offroad trim and that was more than I cared to pay.

Nice. I'd love the locking rear diff, but the reality is I'm not going to off-road a brand new truck.

Same thing I told the salesmen trying to get me to get the 4Runner TRD Pro vs the SR5 I bought.

I got 4WD for those just in case moments and because it helps resale value. There are 2 TRD Pro's in my neighborhood with all sorts of accessories, they appear to be mall crawlers.

Opinions don't have to be all or nothing so I'm not sure why you think that they do. I'm not taking sides. I like both American and Japanese vehicles. I don't have to choose one side and stay there.

I said Toyota has pros and cons. The reliability is a pro for sure. The higher price and rust issues are cons. American vehicles also have pros and cons.

When I said "brain dead" I meant those that simply regurgitate "Toyota is better" or "Japanese cars are better than American vehicles" without having their own reasons for saying these statements. Lots of those people exist. If you don't believe me just ask around.

This statement helps you clarify your first reply to me, which I took as you saying I was just regurgitating the mindless " foreign is better" type of response, which I wasn't making. I've owned enough vehicles through my life time to know that certain vehicles perform specific tasks better than other vehicles. "thumbsup"

I was recently looking at Tacos to possibly replace my '99 4runner and the '05 Outback. The prices on 5 year old Tacos are so close to a brand new one, there's almost no incentive to buy the used one that's out of warranty. Its nuts. I miss a full size truck, but I have no real practical use for one ( other than ego ). I'm liking the way this new Bronco looks, maybe once an official press relase happens and the magazines get their mitts on one to test drive and evaluate, it might tempt me to wait another year and get one.

Sorry, text is easily misconstrued and I'm often too short and don't fully explain my point.

I agree. For $5,000 or so more I'd go new instead of a few years old.

spot-on, sir!
in California people seem to think tacos are made of gold, and used almost increases value???

and yes mine has the locking diff. comes with the towing/FX4 package.
its nice and i have used it a few times.
i can dig up a pic here in a bit to prove she aint no damn mall crawler!"thumbsup"

*taken in ocotillo wells, keeping up nicely with my buddy's (heavily modified) jeep in the background... AND it tows that 5,000 lbs trailer without flinching.

Just because you don't off-road doesn't mean you won't use it. I won't buy a 4x4 new without a locking diff now after owning a couple.

On most 4x4 pickups, it's usually a pretty cheap option, or is already bundled into the trailering package.
