New OCM 2.2 Crawler Review

That is an ambitious price. Can not see this truck being a hot seller at that price. If its not a hot truck ,then LHS and Venders have no need to stock parts etc....

It all seems like a downhill spiral. I hope they find a way to sell an axel set for way less.

yeah.. that price may be the end all be all of this chassis. the company might want to return it back to the 250ish price range and sell quantity.

Theres 2 ways to make money in business... sell a couple of units for huge profit or a large number of units for a smaller profit per unit but you end up making more money! the more you sell the more parts people will break and need to replace.

at almost 400 bucks.. they might sell a couple and make ove $100 more profit on each unit or they could sell a couple hundred units and make less profit per sale but more in the long run! raising the price IMO was a bad move. escpecially since current available rtr kits like the axial and the cr-01 are @ 250-300

After speaking with Alan and confirming with Kendall from amainhobbies.com, the price didn't actually go up. There was either an invoicing issue or a mistake on amainhobbies.com part. The price they are now selling at was supposed to be the price all along.

It would appear that some got one helluva deal then! I hope amainhobbies.com didn't lose any money on that deal:shock:

Remember, the only part on this unit that ISN'T aluminum is the body posts.

Also, selling a couple of hundred units would be a miserable failure in this market. I would expect that there have been several thousand Axial's sold by this point. In fact, I would bet the farm on that 8)

Hello guys,

I want to thank Robb and Dave for the help getting the buzz started about the truck! I feel we have a quality product and with the help of you guys we will be able to refine things along the way. I'll do my best to stop in daily to answer questions or to announce new items on the way.

Guys, I have read through the thread. I have seen some voice concerns on parts and support. I personally handle all the support and I also plan to put in place a few people within the community to help me as well. Parts will not be a issue. As with anything new we had to dabble to make sure that it would be productive to go into a larger production run. But I have a very large order coming to me on the 20th, www.amainhobbies.com has 10-15 kits plus 8 of every part made for the truck. I am also open to having local shops carry the product as well. I think it will all fall into place soon with a little effort on our part.

Dave Kingston will have a truck on tuesday of next week as well. He too will build and test the kit. I am sure he will post his thoughts as well. I would also like to say that if for some reason you can not get a part through www.amainhobbies.com, C&R Hobbies(when they get order), Fastraxx(Kenny Rice), and future shops you can always shoot me a email and I can get it out to ya!

Thanks for the interest in OCM and I look forward to talking with you guys and learning moe about thing!

Thanks!

We are also working on getting the axles/housings priced seperate for you guys as well. I have had a few emails asking of this. Offered complete just like previous pics show.

Here is a quick shot of the OCM in action.

Sounds good Alan. I would be interested in an axle kit if the price is right. Its nice to see that you jumped on here to answer some questions. That is a good start. As long as the parts are available, then things will be all good.

Settle JAX.

quick question....

on the OCM rig with the dual motor design, etc...

what setup would you guys use on electronics?

talk to you guys soon"thumbsup"

I will be working on the electronics of mine over the weekend, and will follow up. Mine is set up with a "Rizzo style" switch DIG that works great for disconnecting the rear motor while activating a dynamic brake at the same time. I attempted to run dual parallel 35T motors off of a single CC Sidewinder, but experience [and then simple math] proved that this wasn't a great combo (19T brushed limit on the sidewinder).

I hope to have a couple of Axiom 55Ts here to experiment with over the weekend. I wanted to play with 45Ts, but they were out of stock, but at the end of the day, 55Ts with 11.4V will probably be a good point to start with.

yeah.. that price may be the end all be all of this chassis. the company might want to return it back to the 250ish price range and sell quantity.....................................escpecially since current available rtr kits like the axial and the cr-01 are @ 250-300
IMO, it shouldn't be the end-all-be-all of this chassis, but this is just my prediction.

I don't think it kills the market for it, it just changes the target market some. Of course, it won't be all that attractive to the new guy that just wants to get into the hobby and looking for a single truck to get him/her going, or the market that just wants to buy a truck and be running with little effort. That market is more served by the AX-10, WK, and probably the CR-01 [in the future].

This kit [and maybe moreso it's individual components], will be attractive to the avid rc crawler market IMO. The market that has multiple crawlers, and is constantly "tinkering" with them, and spends too much money on this stuff already. Outside of the chassis plates, I have plans to use every other part of this kit in some form or fashion, and probably on multiple trucks, so there can be little to no "wasted" investment.

For example, yes, the offset of the stock wheels is too negative [and therefore creates too wide of a wheel track] for the combination to probably be used competitively. So, is the money spent on the wheels wasted? IMO, no. I slapped them on some non-widened TLT axles, and ended up with a +/- 10" wheel track combo, which will work just fine for another rig.

I don't think any profit would be seen with the continuation of selling these in the $250 range. There is just too much quality there to sell for that much. IMO, the $350-400 range puts it in the ballpark where it should be. You take a $230 AX-10, put another $100+ into putting some aluminum link mounts/Cs/knuckles on, and soon you have a $350 AX-10 that still can't hold a candle to the overall strength and quality found in this truck. Once you start getting into steel gears, upgraded shocks, etc, the AX-10 will quickly pass the $400 range. Do you have to put this dough into an AX-10 to run competitively? No, of course not. I am just trying to make it a little more of an apples-to-apples comparison. IMO, if Axial's marketing equation came up with a $230 street price, OCM's $350-400 range isn't too far off for what they have created.

I think this kit and components will do just fine in the future.................if OCM can stand behind it, which they seem to be doing. I know of, at least, a couple of other members here that have a kit or order (speaking of which, I owe a member a measurement.........I will get that off tomorrow, sorry), so I think in the next couple of months, we should see some more reviews, tips and tricks, builds, etc. The first goal will be creating means of narrowing the track width, which I and I know one other member, are already working on.

I didn't get my new motors by this weekend, so I didn't get anymore testing done.:-(

Just to note: I am not trying to down-play the AX-10 here at all. It is a helluva kit for the money. I am building a rig right now using Scorpion axles and tranny.

I've spent thousands on this hobby but look at this new truck in shock due to the new price change.

I'll stick with my TLT and Ax10 until this thing flies up rock climbs I struggle on

Hey there

I agree that there is value in the vehicle and that the price might be justified.

When you take a AX-10 or TLT and a couple hundred $100s worth of then you have the truck the way that you want it. But the same money would have to spent on this truck.

I like this truck, I am sure the parts are great quality, but I am also sure that I would spend the normal couple extra $100s on this as I woud on any other truck to make it perform the way I want it.

Hey guy, I will be out of the office for the rest of this week. We will be attending a race in Arizona.

I will however try to check in when possible;)

Dave call me and let me know when you get the truck:)

Looks real nice, the price hike sucks though. Time will tell how good these rigs really are. I'm interested to see how they stack up against a pimped out 2.2 clod.

What was your over all Track width when all said and done? Never mind found it..

With Claws installed with stock foams, center "pumpkin" ground clearance is 1 5/8". With sitting level, the bottom line of the pumpkin sits at the same plane as the bottom of the knuckle screws. Also with Claws installed, overall wheel track lies at 11 1/4"

With the correct wheels, I think the WT can be brought to just about 10.5". I hope to be working with Mayhem Eng in the near future to create such a beadlock."thumbsup"
