New OCM 2.2 Crawler Review

So, what if I did Clod axles with JP Custom RC's small C tubes, small knuckles, some wheels to bring in the track width, and shaved the bottom o the housing.
What advantage would these Newage axles have over that setup?

All I can see is maybe better Ground clearance under the Center and Lower COG b/c of the motor's position. But once it's rotated up for a BTA you would loose that. not much difference really. They lack after market support.

The axle clearance is much greater than a modified clod. I don't own the OCM's/New Age/Berg :roll: but a club member does. They are much smaller and easier to deal with compared to clod axles. Personally, I don't see these as being better or stronger than well built clods for a Super, but for a 2.2 these look very nice.
I would like to pick up a set of just the axles and try a pimp cane. Custom make the steering and a few other parts and clock the axles straight up to mount a pimp cane. They are so much smaller and less cumbersome than clod axles.
You also don't need the small tubes or knuckles you linked to in order to suck the wheels in for a narrow track width. Everything about these axles is smaller so you can do so much more with just stock axles unlike the clod.
That's kinda what I was noticing too.
Yes, but I own 5 sets of Clod axles. If I could achieve nearly the same thing by spending a bit of money on them rather than dropping $300 on the Newage I'd rather save a little money and have easier to find parts.
I would use the JP knuckles to get to 10.5" track width like Run2 did on his 2.2 Clod.
I'm not trying to knock the Newage, just trying to see if there is any major downfall to my idea to save a little money. Just some thoughts.
I'm all for using what you currently have to keep the cost down. If your looking to build a 2.2 clod than I would use the options you suggested. It seems the OCM/New Age/Bergs:roll: have better qualities for a 2.2 compared to the clod axles mostly because the clod axles have so much more girth to them compared to the relatively small OCM/New Age/Bergs:roll:.
But since I don't own the axles and I cannot really speak to how they mount up and what limitations they have. Just based on what I have seen, I think much could be done with them in the hands of a capable builder/fabricator/driver. Does that make them worth $100 an axle, I don't know. They seem like raptor axles only slightly different and with better gearing and drive axles. Since they are completely aluminum, it seems to me, that drilling and taping into the casing to remount them or anything else attaching to them would be easy.
So anyone have an inside scoop on when these things are going to be available again? Been on back order for quite a long time. Think Amain is going to be the only source for a while?

I just personally don't want to build a 2.2 shafty. Seems the only other motor mounted axles are clods(too big imo) and the new duratraxx which I'm not sure are going to be comp capable anytime soon.

Do yourself a favor and wait on the OCM
I have an ocm stick 2.2 running 55t lathes on a sidewinder with the rizzo micro dig. i did 2 micro switches on 1 micro servo on a 3 position switch. The thing works well. The axles as you know are all metal and you simply cant beat this rig for $300 to $350. It turns tight right out of the box (without cvd's) plus it comes with metal beadlocks and metal shocks. there is little to no plastic on the ocm. If i were you i would wait, even if it takes an extra month. The duratraxx may be out soon but i honestly don't think it will be comparable when you look at both of them in stock form. A stock ax-10 will run you into some $ with upgrades. I know, I have a ton of loot in mine. the only thing left axial are the axle cases. my honest opinion is that stock the ocm newage will out crawl a stock ax-10 or the new duratraxx(even though i havent personally seen the duratraxx). Bottom line is that you cant buy a rig this solid and this beefy for this cheap. Just wait, it's worth it!:lol:

I was thinking about switching over to a stick or "cane" style chassis here soon. I think a cane style would be pretty cut-n-dry to configure, but curious about attachment points for a stick style.

I spent the weekend with the owner of amainhobbies and he confirmed that the first shipment of Berg's came and went and the second shipment will be her in a week or two.
It will take a little time to get the supply chain filled.
He also got in all the parts.
AND.... axle kits are on the way. They won't be supa-cheap but if you only want the axles it could be a more cost-effective alternative.

That's good to here. I was dissapointed to see the kit price keep's going up. I know it kept me from ordering them.:-(......and I'm a spender.lol.
I guess supply and demand will allow that.

Thats whats up! I wasn't worried. Glad to see OCM making a name in rc crawling. Kick @$$ axles in my opinion. Great price as well. I have way more than that in my metal gear loaded clod axles. :lol:

I called a main today because the arrival date for the chassis was today. i was told that they have no idea when they will be in. obviously not what i wanted to hear, I hope they will be in soon, like stated a few posts up. i had to sell my comp rig to afford to build another one and i am hoping to get this and get it built before our next comp or i may have to miss a comp!
I also asked since i ordered it before the price was changed, will they honor the cheaper price, they said NO! whats up with that? that really sucks, but i guess supply and demand has taken over and they see the chance to make more money.

Yeah that sucks I've had 2 on backorder since the 14th. Hope they get em soon. Also I was told that they would honor the back-order price.

wow they accept backorders at one price, get a ton of back orders, then raise the price? That just doesn't seem right.
