New RC4WD Dakar truck, 1/14 scale, 1.7 wheels

I think this RC4WD rig is a very interesting concept. I don’t see it being long lived like the Yotas and D90s have been. But it is very cool. I can’t see myself shelling out the $$$ for one but I wouldn’t mind maybe stick building one over time.

It comes with two full sheets. Tough to see white decals on white background.
And I have a 4pks for my main radio. This rtr radio is entry level but way better than I expected. I havent swapped radios on it yet, as I dont have any complaints on it, right now.

Except the rear enclosed bed and a few other specific bits for this truck , it uses existing and popular RC4WD parts. Earthmover axles, armageddon cab, Downshift 2 speed transmission, etc, etc.
A person would be hard pressed to build an RTR Dakar to this scale detail with a 2 speed transmission and selectable locking axles for less than their asking price, not to mention the time and fabrication efforts.

I like this truck for an easy going scale driving bash truck that is just as fun to stare at on the shelf. Plus, I had saved up hobby funds just burning a hole in my paypal wallet. [emoji12]

Ive dug some dirt trials in the woods part of my yard for this truck. It has to be drove to it just under it’s capabilities or you are going to be rolling it. Yes, its top heavy but nothing you cant manage with scale driving for the conditions. Also, it has sway bars front and rear. It climbs steep hills with traction just fine in low 4x4. The tight lugged and firm compound tires limit it on traction. Which is kinda of a good thing for me, so I dont over do it and crash. Haha. I have another set of wheels in mind as well as another set of scale dakar type tires that will offer more traction.

It’s movements and handling mimic that of a 1:1, so it’s fun just to whip it around in the yard at a sensible speed.
Second gear on pavement is fun but can get sketchy if you screw up! It moves.
In short, it’s for a person that values the scale details and enjoys driving the truck in a scale manner.

Right now, the things I want to change are;
Tires. Have to go 1.9 to get the look I want. Stock are 1.7 setup.
Paint and or decal wrap different than stock.

In a perfect world to keep the weight down, I would have liked to have seen an injection molded plastic rear covered bed/canopy. Or a flat panel setup but tough to get smooth 3D curves like that. Stock is steel but done very nice with well done almost unseen seams.

Got my decals from Krawler Koncepts installed. Started with me hand making paper templates.

Reviving an old thread that I came across while searching.

Any updates? Anyone else pick one of these up? Anyone make any mods?

I'm interested. On one hand the fact that it's not the MAN cab may bug me. On the other hand, the Volvo cab has nice detail and is a good base to work from. IF I get one, thinking about repainting the body - what paint type would you suggest for the plastic cab? Tamiya PS?

Have always been fascinated with this unit. I think I'd have to move the battery down to lower the CG. There is a lot that could be done with this rig in the scale department too. Could be fun.
