Picked this up a few weeks ago since it seemed like a good deal. The rig was barely used and it came with the the following upgrades:
vanquish stage 1 kit
vanquish ar60 link mounts f/r
vanquish ar60 truss set
vanquish titanium link set
vanquish ar60 servo mount
vanquish motor plate
vanquish motor cam
vanquish trailing arms
proline pro spec shocks
vanquish currie anti rock sway bar
DMG spare tire relocation mount
DMG scx10 motor plate
metal tranny gears
mip cvd center driveshafts
hardened axle shafts f/r
RC4wd squadron light pods
All for $400

I picked up a mamba x and a hobbystar pro4 hd 2500kv sensored motor for the power plant and a JX 5830HV servo for steering (.09 sec transit speed and 420oz/in @8.4v for $39!!! And it’s waterproof!!!)

RC4wd MT/Rs for tires and some knockoff KMC bully wheels

CI 5.5 DD foams

Rig came already painted

So I decided to spruce it up by painting the outside since I didn’t feel like spending money on new body panels

That was a bargain, my man... very nice rig.

Best of luck on the Ultra 5K!

The Bombers first Scale Ultra 5k was a success! The rig performed perfectly. There were a lot of water crossings though and I’m worried I might have messed up my brand new motor.

I had tried waterproofing the motor by coating the sensor board with silicone conformal coating but it started cogging at the end of the race. Any advice?

I'd let everything dry out in the sun and then hook up a fresh battery and test it again... possibly disassemble it part-way.

Problem may be gone by then...

Use dielectric grease on sensor wire connectors when hooking it all back up.

Yeah I pulled the motor out, dried it thoroughly and applied another coat of conformal coating and reapplied dielectric grease and it works again! Whew! The motor was only $50 but I’m glad I didn’t ruin it. A bunch of guys at the race were recommending I scrap my $50 hobbystar motor and get a Tekin, Holmes Hobbies or a Castle element proof motor. I don’t know...don’t all of these motors come from the same factory in China?

Nope - there is a noticeable difference in low-speed control between say, a Holmes Hobbies brushless motor and a HobbyStar.

As a matter of fact I'm using one of the least expensive ($66) and for that matter, sensorLESS (!) Holmes brushless motors - a Revolver outrunner - in my Bomber and the low-speed control is phenomenal...

It being an outrunner means it makes somewhat odd noises out on the trail, comes from the outside of the motor spinning rather than the inside!

I find it rather entertaining - and it crawls incredibly well.

His 2-pole motors are very good (Trailmaster Pro series, $70) but the Puller Pro 4-poles are the top-of-the-line.

BTW - his Trailmaster Pro and Puller Pro motors come already waterproofed.

Having a Castle Mamba X ESC goes a long way in allowing you to use a slightly less sophisticated motor for crawling, they have such incredible software control.

(also, "Element Proof" is a Tekin term for their weatherized motors, they are also quite good - but I'm a Holmes guy, through and through! Castle Slate crawler motors are less expensive than these others, but perfectly acceptable.)

Here's a link that allows you to check out all the brands, Holmes, Tekin, and Castle (as well as a couple I'd not recommend personally for crawlers!):

Funny because I initially had a giant 4268 motor bolted up on the rig. I pulled it off and put in the Pro4 motor because I wanted a smaller more efficient motor that would allow me to run the entire 5k race without having to change batteries. That 4268 motor was a beast! Had decent low end speed control too.

That makes sense, I have never entered a race so have not had to consider that set of parameters, I also have a couple of tekin 412 motors, and they are both very good. I think the newer Element Proof version is the one to get...

Does anyone know what parts i would need to shorten the bomber wheelbase? i was thinking about getting the 129mm super shafty trailing arms but dont know what MIP drive shaft parts to get to fit the shorter length. Also would like suggestions on which rear upper links to get to accommodate the new wheelbase.
thanks!
