Notice* vaterra/traxxas

I really doubt that that some one at losi went into a meeting and said "you know what we should do let's rip off the revo's suspension design" it probably just made sense from a manufacturing stand point. The bottom line is vaterra is getting into traxxas's bread and butter "basher" vehicles. They're making vehicles that appeal to the guy that walks into a hobby shop for the first time. If I were to guess I bet traxxas didn't even negotiate $ for the infringement. They know it will cost vaterra more in the long run to do this recall. Let's face it, you think they would of even noticed if they would have put it on the losi 8ight instead of the TH.

^^^^ that sounds right on.

It appears to me that traxxas is just being a bully. They have weight to throw around and feel threatened by an upstart brand making really fun rc's. in this case the fact that they have a patent is irrelevant because anything can be patented, it doesn't make the part in question that special. It's not like that design is costing traxxas money or making vaterra money. It's just taking advantage of a legal technicality to be a dick.

Ok lets change gears here a bit.

1) I have a VTH and love it. BUT, there are some changes that would make me love it even more and this patent infringement bullshit is creating the perfect opportunity for a VTH v.2 codenamed "Hammer Time!" (Is there still a copyright on that? :flipoff:)

2) Lose the rockers and run upright shocks like the custom kits available form our vendors (No lawsuits, looks/works better win/win/win).

3) Get rid of the sloppy steering and run a similar set up to our vendor (and maybe pay Derwood a licensing fee?)

4) Lose the cheapo charger. The thing isn't tested and is now banned in Canada. Knock $18 off the kit.

5) Run aluminum or steel hexes. Plastic? really?

6) Sell it as a kit! Everyone tosses the electronics anyways.

Just sayin'

You guys do realize the very first prototype for the twin hammer, the rig that created the idea for it used a entire traxxas 1/16 revo front end? I'm not accusing Vaterra of copying Traxxas, I am just curious how similar the parts are. But its kinda hard to say you didn't copy someone when there are pics of the 1st concept floating around the net.

My lhs sent me the email they got from horizon asking him to send those parts and my th back if it hadnt been sold yet. As we know it merely had to do with the rocker..whats the fix?? Dont copy the pia to assemble two piece rockers..which is what people used to have to do to esp's clodzilla cantilever. .did they reinvent the wheel and put a extra spoke in the wheel?? Yeah..traxxas has done as much damage to rc's as they have done good. The reason why they could sue veterra and not redcat or similar ie mugen is because they are foreign countries and they dont have to abide by a US patent..vaterra does. Had they been a chinese company they couldnt have touched it. But as the communists have said for centuries the us democracy will self destruct and turn on one another.

Eh, not really. Look at the Horst Link in mountain bike suspension design...or FSR linkage if you live here in the states. No one, unless they licensed the design from Specialized, could have a bike with the suspension pivot located on the chainstay and sell them in the US. Period.

This thread is hilarious. Traxxas bashers, sidetracks to other chassis designs, people who clearly cannot read or at the very least cannot comprehend what they read..

Reality is that this kind of thing happens all the time. Usually it's kept quiet and results in a running change "upgrade" of a part or design. This one is just a little more public.

i never seen them, got pics links? im not bashing on either company just interested in the pics.

You American people, strange people... With Your patent-wars :P

Whadda noise about a €4 part. And looking at the way Traxxas decided to suddenly jump on the TH, after the thing has been available for quite some time (!!) it looks to me that Traxxas was caught with it's pants down, fearing too much competition, and pulled a d..k move to mask their utter failure: Their missed opportunity to enter the crawler/solid axle market. And their general failure to come up with something else that sells but the tired Slash- and Stampede with an endless stream of different bodies (I call it the "Tamiya-method" )

I dunno, it feels like spite, or something.

Me thinks Traxxas has also grown a tad too big for it's (financial) briches. Their Funnycar -fantastic experiment it was- flopped (got one though) The XO-1 -an impressive tour-de-Force- flopped, and is now only half the price it was. Their big speedboat didn't make a dent in the market. The tons of sponsoring got quite expensive, and there's a world-wide crisis going on. Etc etc

They tried some far-out new things, One has to appreciate that, After their bonkers Funnycar, I almost expected some truly exotic thing like, say, a Snowmobile, or a motocrosser but sadly they missed the boat on the áctual new markets, succesfully entered by Axial, and, yes Vaterra/Losi.

Moves like this makes them sound desperate. Vaterra might be a tad inconvened for the moment, and replacing all those rockers can get expensive for them, but in the end, Traxxas will be looked upon as a sad, pathetic bully.

Weaksauce, real weaksauce. Corporate America at it's finest.

PS @ Lazynocturnal: How dáre You. Don't even think one minute about selling that truck, or Traxxas will sick it's army of over-paid lawyers on Your hide.:lmao:

@ Turbo Shadow take a look,

Yeah anyone can put a set of revo rockers on their TH and call it a prototype, Nice try. NEXT!!

I said "prototype" just to stir the pot a little. I actually run the mini progressive and long travel rockers as I was trying to play with the front suspension...

I think you are ignoring the truth. Traxxas wasn't the first with a two piece cantilever.

It doesn't matter if they weren't the first to us it, they were the first American company to file for the patent. Period.

It doesn't take Einstein to figure this one out. "thumbsup"

MAN....There really is a lot people on this board that just don't get it lol! Traxxas used there investment AND there RIGHT to protect what they RIGHTFULLY OWN. What part of that don't some of you get? Anyone with a hint of pride would do the same thing and don't tell me you wouldn't. Its easy to bitch and whine when you support thief's, and that is exactly what some of you guys are doing.
