Ok so i have an old Airtronics M11. From when they where first released. Way back in the day. I have the original Spectrum module for the radio but i do not have any receivers for it. I love this radio and its in near perfect condition so i would rally like to use it. After all, I paid like $400-500 back in the day for it. id like to use it if i can. I know Im going to get the " Just buy a new updated system". Well I did but i didnt want to. For now i just bought a FlySky FS-GT3B. Id like that to be the radio my son uses after i get the M11 working. What I wanna know is if anyone is out there using the "old" Spektrum stuff yet and if there are any newer receivers that will bind and work with the old stuff. Other than trying to find an original Spektrum RX on Ebay. I tried to bind the FS-GR3E RX that came with the FlySky to my M11. No luck there.

In my research i found the HobbyKing OrangeRX that is DSM/DSM2 compatible. It says it is, but does anyone have any experience with these RX's with the old DSM Spektrum equipment.

this is the ORANGE dsm RX, from hobby king. i bought a ton of them years ago. (were 3 or 4 dollars @ that time)

i like them personaly, but know that reception isnt as far , compared to a OEM. The orange RX actualy works best if the antenna is going up. (i made a cheater low-profile antenna)

you can find the physcial antenna cable for these too, (dont remember part numbers) and easily get farther distances out of it.

IF you do get a few, they work great for gen1 DSM, but i would also suggest adding a 10v cap(internal mod or just plug into the extra port), as they are sensitive to voltage drops.

Thanks for the response mprudic0404. Is it a different antenna than the original one that extends the range? I would assume it is..?

I have quite a few of those Orange receivers that I still use with a Spekturm DX3C. For the most part they have been trouble free, one died spontaneously but 4-5 are still going strong.

Never bothered with adding caps or bothering with the antenna and never had any brownouts or range issues (even in my Savage Flux XL). On my crawlers, I even wrapped up the antenna and stuck it inside the case.

I can test out one of the receivers with an ancient DX2 to see how they play with an old DSM only system.

I had awesome luck with the OrangeRX receivers as well. I never noticed any range problems, but I'm not trying to go a football field away from me.

That would be awesome svt923. Then i should know for sure if they will work with my M11 setup. Like i said, my M11 and Spektrum module are are old. The Spektrum module i had to pre-order when i bought the M11 because the module wasnt available yet. So its one of the first for sure.

I see that HobbyKing sells a module for Futaba. Wonder if that will work in my M11? Aside from the M11 using 8 pins and the Futaba using only 5. But i though way back when, the Futaba & Airtronics synthesized systems where interchangeable.

Tx manufactures have done weird things. depending on where you search, you can find most older radios (module type) are swapable. the kyosho MINI-Z is popular in japan, and every once in a while on ebay, a used one pops up with odd TX. seen futaba, airtronics, spektrum, etc...

(OEM kyosho mini-z's have a perm RX/ESC board, so the TX must addapt)

mini z's are awesome little RC cars, and if your not familar, check out a mini-z-MONSTER. we have family racing in the living room when the winter hits and its too miserable outside for the big trucks. heck, i even took mine a few times to the doctors office, because its such a long wait and yet theirs only two people in it.

the ORX EXTENDED antenna is in the pic, may have to zoom. i Only noticed distance issues on extreme speed runs with a old tt01. That car would go well over 100mph, but I never reached its MAX speed as i would run out of room. (101mph on the radar gun@18cell nicd in a hospital parking garage)

cool info, the OrX survived a crash at those speeds, the hobbywing esc did not, hah!!!

Ha!! Nice.. TT01 at 100+ must be fun. I never got into the on road stuff. All i do/did is dirt off road and crawling.. So the factory antenna might be ok for me.. Thanks for the info bud.. Really helps me out..

I've used a pair of OrangeRX GR300R RX's with a DX3C and DX3R without Problems, but I believe in my case they are DSM2 even though they claim it's also DSM compatible. They dont bind with my Losi BND DSM transmitter like my genuine Spektrum RX's do.

I don't see the OrangeRX FS as much as I used to, but eBay sometimes still had them as well as the genuine DSM SR300 and SR3000 Spektrum receivers

Just tried to get an Orange RX to bind to a DX2 and it was a no go. Tried the same receiver with my DX3C and it bound right away.

The best bet to use the Spektrum module is find some SR3000 receivers on eBay.

question for fellow spektrum users- ever have a profile in your TX Lose a channel? i once lost control of steering, and to this day still dont understand what happened. I did all the normal TS, but only after i cleared the profile did it come back

Thanks for the effort SVT923. I scoped out ebay and there are more SR3000 RX's on there than I realized. ill prolly just buy a used Spektrum SR3000.

Ya. Ive had similar issues with some older transmitters. Always did exactly what you did. Copy the model to an open memory, erase the problem model memory and recopy the copy to the newly erased model memory.. Worked the few times i had that issue.
