Open Or Concealed Carry?

After some reading and research, I believe that one of the possible reasons some states have passed open carry laws, is to stop lawsuits against law abiding CCW folks who accidently expose their weapon while in public, there is one such case here in Florida, somebody noticed that a guy had a gun, and it wasn't concealed all the way, called the cops and he was arrested, even though he had a CWL he was charged convicted of "Brandishing A Firearm in Public". The courts have refused to hear any appeals in the case.

Anyone have any suggestions for concealed full size carry? I have not yet found anything that is either comfortable nor well concealable in warmer months.

Not yet but, I've been looking at 4" 1911s a lot lately. slim, fairly short, not real sure on the conceal-ability though.

Ever read about stories of people being tackled and restrained until the cops show up only to find out that they are legally allowed to conceal/carry a firearm?

I've been part of multiple stories, all were concerning open carry.

There's no good reason to open carry on a regular basis. If I'm ever in a situation where I need a gun, I sure as hell don't want to be advertising that I have one.

I'll open carry in the mountains either out hiking/hunting/wheeling. But that's for oh shit moments when some crazy person or animal is attacking...or recreational purposes.

Now, I do agree. People shouldn't be freaked out about guns, unless of course you see some tweaker with a gun jammed into his waistband. But that's never going to change. And if more people open carry then the people who are insecure about guns will freak out even more and will speak out louder and speed up the process of increased gun control.

The only real way to make people feel more secure around guns is to make them more familiar with them when they are young.

I carry a full size 1911 everyday in a Crossbreed super tuck and I find it to be perfectly comfortable. I am a rather skinny guy and unless I am picking stuff off the ground it barely ever even prints with just an untucked T-shirt.

I have also been reading reviews on Aliengear IWB holsters as a cheaper alternative but I am not sold.

There is also the Stealth Gear Onxy. It is another IWB holster but it doesn't use a leather back. Many people say it breathes better.

I used to have a full size .45 for my cc. They are very slim so it works beter than you would think it would at first. The short barrled ones would do well as a cc weapon as well. If it ever hit the fan ,getting the second shot off from a four inch barreled .45 would take forever.
older now and fatter still cc , but switch between a lc9s and vp40. Depends on where I will be most of that day.

Crossbreed Supertuck all the way. Not sure if it'll match your purse, though.

The g19 in the Crossbreed hides well with a sized up shirt and also works well with drawstring pants for your warmer action. You still get some printing here and there. An untucked button-down and loose-fit jeans seems to be best. I jog and bike while wearing the crossbreed and g19. Might as well go swimming! brb gonna run a jack move on some unsuspecting swimmers...

My 1911 isn't as slim as most. It is a Sig 1911 Nitron Rail so the slide isn't as contoured and the frame is much wider at the front due to the rail section. It still carries easily though. I'm not as quick drawing it as I am with my Glock 22 from my Phobus OWB holster but I prefer the 1911 and super tuck for some reason.

Ordering a super tuck for my Sig 320 carry in a day or two though. Won't be carrying it until I practice with it a lot but I love the trigger and grip of the 320 and it will soon become my EDC.

I like big guns and I can't deny.

Instead of a g19 think g17, that is more the size I'm talking about. I suck with and am not comfortable with tiny guns. Seems like the whole CC market is geared towards very small pistols.

I can see how a IWB holster might be practical for a very small gun, but for a full size it's neither comfortable nor practical. Might as well be open carry.

So, do you have any advice on CC full size or is your response to just buy a smaller gun?

I know you quoted another post but you do not need a smaller gun to carry IWB and have it be comfortable and almost completely hidden. Crossbreed, Galco, Aliengear, and many other companies make IWB holsters for full size guns.

Case in point. As I said I have been carrying a full size 1911, which if I'm not mistaken is slightly longer but a little skinnier than a G17, in a Crossbreed Super Tuck everyday to work for over a year. None of my co-workers knew I was armed until I told one of them a few weeks ago when we were talking about CCW permits. He could not believe that a person my size (6ft 150lbs) could not only conceal it easily but have no one ever notice. And just to be clear I do not sit at a desk nor wear a suit.

If you think a G17 is too big to IWB carry there are some great OWB holsters that you can keep fairly well hidden with just wearing an over shirt. That's how I carry my G22.

Have you considered a CZ P-01 ? It's an aluminum frame, so a bit hefty compared to the composite guns. It's not huge but not small, the grip is great, it's pretty accurate, a soft recoil, and reliable.

There's a time an place for everything. 99% of the time it's CC, if I'm going out in the woods I OC sometimes, even around town no one ever seems to notice when I do.

My current carry gun is a Baby Desert Eagle II, a full size steel pistol is starting to get old.

Where we live it's hot/warm weather 90% of the year, so a 'full size' is nearly impossible to carry in comfort. My go to for EDC is a S&W Shield, not full size but also not a mouse gun. With a "MagGuts" kit you can carry up to 10 rounds of 9mm HST 147 gr +P and a spare mag with 8 or 9 depending on which mag you have, very comfy and easy to conceal even with a T-Shirt and shorts.

...for comfy concealed concealing yes I would say it's best to just carry something that's smaller.

M&P full size (not the "Long Slide" one) can be hidden if you try. I'm not a huge fan of the smaller firearms either, but a shield can be used as a pocket carry (please, please use a kydex trigger guard!) and it shoots like a bigger gun than it is. just my two cents.

I keep my Ruger 9mm in the door of my truck. Its a little bulky to try and hide. And my Desert Eagle 50 is so big and heavy I am not sure anyone could hide it, unless you were super skinny, and wore a big baggy shirt.

I prefer to not be a victim and I am always aware of whats around me and never get into those situations. Regardless humans are unpredictable and you can never be 100% safe and out of harms way--why my gun is like my wallet--never leave home without it and its always concealed..

After much thought and research I'm ordering a CrossBreed Super Tuck Deluxe. They're one of a couple of brands I haven't tried and I can always get my money back if it doesn't suit me. Also they're one of only two manufacturers I've been able to find that make an aftermarket holster specifically for my pistol.

I'm anxious to see how this compares to the uncomfortable and often printing nylon IWB's I've tried at local shops.

Open carry makes me nervous because theres too many wanna be Rambos around my area. We have a couple I see regularly at the fleet farm store that carry atleast 3 pistols apiece and enough ammo to kill the entire store then Last summer I was around a beer tent and a fight between a couple drunks broke out. 2 dudes ,no weapons, no biggie, bouncers had them separated in seconds but still some asshat decided to fire 4 shots into the air to "disperse the crowd". Open carry people(not all) also seem to be the I'll shoot that damn drone down if it comes in my yard or I aint goin if I cant carry a gun etc etc. I can carry and I think people should be able to but if your stupid about it your permit should be revoked
