Original Design (2009) - 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

0.7"-1" wheels = Narrow Inner
1.125"-1.3" wheels = Wide Inner

Inners are wheel width dependent. The reasoning behind step cutting/ beveling the inside bead surface of the foam.

My 5lb 9oz berg worked good with Khaos and closed cell inners with soft outers up front and medium outers out back with med-firm outer tuning rings. If the front is too soft try a soft-med tuning ring.

For Sedona's, soft outer up front, medium outer out back. Outer tuning rings where needed. My sedonas are clapped too.

There are some pictures and details about the khaos setup in my Khaos-Rover thread.
thats exactly what i was thinking. thanks i appreciate it

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

That is an amazing idea !!! You can pick between full foam or half foam with out destroying the foam inserts!!!!!!!!!!

So my DH wheels are bigger than an inch and smaller than 1.125".

Narrow, wide or flip a coin? (w/Rover whites, 5.5 lb AX10).

You should be able to use either. I was able to mount a set of the wide inners to a 1" wheel without any problem. It has a slightly firmer sidewall than the narrow inner on the same wheel.

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

Well, I took my new foams out for a spin today.

My setup.....very well worn boss claws (only modifications are every third lugs have been cut) filled with CI 5.5" foams (Front: soft outer, narrow closed cell inner; Rear: soft outer, wide closed cell inner):

I am liking this setup! "thumbsup"

These foams were pulling lines that my old (softer) setup struggled with. I noticed a LOT less bounce when I was having to use momentum to get up climbs with undercuts as well as on vertical climbs.

I did find it more difficult to mount the tires than before, but I found that the easiest way is the put the outer inside the tire first, then mount the inner to the wheel (line up the breather holes) then stuff the whole inner/wheel combo into the tire and bolt up the rings.

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

My question is what are you guys doing about venting? My rims have a drilled vent hole but the closed foam inners don't allow it breath,,,,I'm not a big fan of punching a hole in my tire.

Just wondering what everyone is doing?

Thanks

Mike

Vent the wheel and vent the foam.

pictures here of some original prototypes on the right, vented with 1/4" drill bit.
Production inners on left were not vented but are now, like the ones one the right.

Jeremy you liking the 5.5? I was told 5.5 was too much foam for boss claws and to run 5.25 instead?

Sent from my Thunderbolt!

My wheels are vented too and just like Shane, I marked the location of my vent hole on the foam and drilled a 1/4" hole in the inner foam. You need to be careful when drilling the foam as the bit tends to wander. Make sure to line up the holes in the foam with the holes in the rim.

Yeah, Eddie told me the same.....but what the hell does he know about foams anyway. :ror: :flipoff:

Seriously, I am liking the 5.5" foams in the boss claws. I am running the soft outers in all 4, but am thinking of stepping up the the mediums in the rear.

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

good info here"thumbsup"
I'm planing to use my shaved BC on 0.7 wheels, so I can use 5.5 foam ?

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

Ive got some of the new inners in my deep freeze right now, will try drilling them with a good sharp bit tonight and let you guys know whether freezing helped. Trying to keep the foams from being so grabby when we vent them.

Just use a sharp bit with high speed (you said that). I had no issues on any of the prototypes or production inners.
It can grab a little if you use slow drill speed or get the bit at an angle.

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

You holes look pretty wallowed.
Just like TC's when he did them over here.

Re: New... 2.2 and 1.9 dual stage foams

- Recommended Venting for Air Movement with the new design: Vent the tire.

The problem with drilling the inners for vent holes, is the foams can move / shift on the wheel. Then you are screwed if it happens on course in a comp. No air will pass through and the performance decrease is instantly noticeable. It has happened to me on both a crawler and in my wraith. Vent the tires, it's so much easier.

I hate holes in tires and I have spent the last few years telling everyone to vent the bead lock. The closed cell inner foam does not breathe at all though. A small leather punch for a tiny 1/16th hole is all you need in three spots around the tire"thumbsup".

Boss Claws:

I will refer you to my Team Drivers. I hate Losi Rubber, I don't sell it and I don't use it. Plus everyone has different weights, wheel widths, trucks, etc., etc., etc....

We made a new Double Deuce 5.25 closed cell inner. It was designed primarily with the Boss Claw in mind, but it has multiple scale applications as well. This size will be amazing in 2.2 Pit Bull tires as well. The inner is ready and in stock, but the outer foams are not. It will be 2 - 3 weeks before they will arrive and be in stock.

So with that said, you can buy whatever size Double Deuce you like for your BC's. A 5.5 will fit in the Boss Claw. Is it right for your truck? I don't know. If I knew all those answers, I wouldn't be designing and selling parts for Toy Trucks, I'd be in high end finance :lmao:

As always, my family and I are grateful for everyone's support of Crawler Innovations and this new product line. Without you, there would be no Crawler Innovations. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and time in my life. Thank you for making it possible.
- Eddie
