paying for avatar???

help me as i'm a little confused with this. i chat on other forums online and i don't understand why you have to pay to have an avatar here even if hosted off your own space. i mean...i know it can't be paying for bandwidth now that the site has ads all over the place and in every post. so anyone have a clue why i can't have a tiny avatar linked to my name? :???:

The simple explanation is that there are some features and perks that have been reserved for star holding members as a way to say thank you to those individuals.

The guys that run and own this site are not getting rich off your 20 bucks. The $20 is to help keep this site up and running smoothly.

no it's the principle. over at TTORA they have contributing members that get extra "features" but you can have avitars and not hafta pay for them. they have ads to support the site but not in every freakin post.
