"Signature Required: UPS will obtain the recipient's signature and provide you with a printed copy. You may also view the recipient's signature online."

Why do people/companies ship using this method? I can understand the liability issue, but how many customers are sitting around their houses during the day, just waiting to sign for a package? It is the 21st Century, most houses are empty during the day. I know it is used all the time in company-to-company shipping, but is it needed when shipping to residences?

Now understand, this shipping method does not mean that UPS leaves you one of those slips, that you then sign, and then they leave the package the next day because you signed the slip...............nope, they HAVE to witness the signature, and personally hand you the package.

Well, apparently UPS came by yesterday and today with my Hi-Lift ...............and now it is on it's way back to UH!!:-( I mean, TELL the customer that they have to be home for a signature if you want to ship using it!!

just ranting....................

It sucks, had that happen to me before too. I've gotten lucky by signing that slip they leave once, yep only once. I ship everything to my work addy now.

they usually just drop stuff at my house and ring the bell. i think its a senders option though. i think its inappropriate nowadays...

they didnt leave a note warning you that they were shipping it back?
Nope. They left a note today saying that they attempted to deliver on Tuesday, and final attempt would be on Wednesday...................which makes no sense to tell someone that they just missed the final attempt. Why inform someone of when final attempt will be made while they are making final attempt?

I am just assuming that since I missed the final delivery attempt, that the package is on it's way back to the shipper.

I too have **** shipped to my workplace.

After having to drive over to UPS to get my package once, I said never gain is it all going down like this. It was a total pain in the ***, but I can't remember why, it was a pretty long time ago.

I look forward to the future when we all have a new appliance called a Materializer. Buy your Hi lift from an online store, and a few seconds later, open the door to your Materializer, and there it is.

strait from the UPS website

You can also change the delivery address or give us other instructions at UPS.com. Enter your 12-digit UPS InfoNotice number on the Tracking page. Select the Track button. This will take you to the Tracking Summary page. Click on the Tracking Number link to get more detail about your shipment. In the Package Progress section, select the link to Choose Another Delivery Option. Below are the four options you can select:

  • Will Call
  • Deliver to Another Address
  • Reschedule Delivery
  • Return to Sender
Make your selection and choose the Next button. Regardless of your selection of delivery option, UPS requires additional information to complete delivery. Please complete the required forms and select Finish. UPS will then send you a Confirmation page that you can print for your records.

im callin B.S... my wife used to work for UPS.. they try delivering 2 times and then it sits at you towns main hub for pickup for a couple of days then it gets sent back to the sender. If you have the tracking number, UPS has the ability to turn the package around no matter where it is in shipping and try a re-delivery. They may reffer to it as a re-directing it to an alternate address. you can always have them keep it at the Hub for pickup and go get it.. just bring your ID with ya!

Signature required covers the shippers butt for insurance reasons especially the hjigh dollar items. Dont gripe about having to sign for it.. how would you like it if they had left it and 5 days later you decide to track it and it shows delivery only you didnt get it. That would suck more than this... cause if anything happens the sender has to file the claim.

Thanks for the hope slobin3d and TwistedXT!!

I never received a tracking number from UH, so I can't do anything right now, but I will call them tomorrow and inquire if they can provide me one. If they can, I will contact UPS and see if I can recover this thing before it leaves town.

Thanks!!!!

my wife just said that they keep it at the hub for 3 days then back it goes.. and you need a tracking number to find out where it is.. and, if you go to the hub to pick it up.. YOU NEED TO BRING THAT LITTLE PAPER STICKY THING WITH YA THAT THEY LEFT ON YOUR DOOR!!!!!

I'm starting to recall why it was such a pain the ***...

its not going back, it will be held at the UPS facility for a week. call them and talk to the employee at the computer and they will tell you all you need to know. dont just assume that because you werent able to sign for it that they are going to send it back. oh, and i did work for UPS over the summer so im not just talking outta my @$$. they are actually supposed to do 3 attempts before it goes off the truck and into the facility

To update this one:
I have been working crazy hours, so I sent UH an email the last night that I posted in this thread, and never got a reply...................but they did call me personally late the next night. The guy on the phone apologized for calling so late, but I was glad to hear from him with the tracking number. Because of work, I didn't get to the hub last week, but I am taking next week off, so I will get by there Monday.

SOOOOOO................
....since I will have some time this week, I ordered up a bunch of stuff last week. which leads me into my latest rant.:-(

What is up with ordering one item from a company (which their site shows as available), then them charging your credit card for the order, and then them just emailing you that the item is on backorder?????

1) update your site if the item isn't available!!! I just checked out the site in my situation, and the item is still available for order.
2) don't charge me if you can't produce your end of the transaction!! My money is now making you money, and I am not charging you interest!!
3) don't tell a customer that an item is simply "on backorder!!" Let me know if I should expect to wait a day, a week, a month, or a year!!!!
4) give ME the option of NOT PAYING if I don't feel like waiting!!!! Don't charge me without telling me I have to wait!!!
[/rant off]

That is almost what heppened to me with my futaba 4zwd, except they didnt charge the card up front, they waited till it was in stock. I order a couple of things from southeast rc(good prices) and 1) they sent the wrong esc, 2)the 4zwd said it was available when i placed the order, they shipped everything but that, and a few days later i checked out what the deal was and they said it was on back order, wtf? Why cant people update things, its not like 200 items went on backorder at the same time.

its stupid, i got a package sent here, since no ones home during the day, (well my mom is some times, but not this day). ups comes and leaves a note, to get your package you must come pick it up. well that seems like no big deal.. well then i find out the store its in closes early that day, so i cant go today.. then i found out they moved it to a differnet store, thats 20 miles away from me.. i mean wtf? silly stuff..
