i thought with the coonhound thread i would start a thread for pitbull owners.the dogs get a bad rap that i blame on owners that use and train these dogs fro the wrong reasons.

Good owners or not, some dogs are just bread to kill. Pits, Dobies, Rots, German Shepards, etc. should have a special permit to go along with ownership.

I have a good friend that had a Pitbull for 4 years from a puppy and one day it got up from a nap, walked across the living room and ripped half of her 2 year old sons face off. There was no reason, the kid was playing by himself. My friend, her mom, and her sister were sitting in the living room at the time and saw how it happened. The dog just snapped. Owning one of these kind of dogs is like having a loaded gun sitting in the house. Most likely nothing will happen but why take the chance.

And for anyone who says....

"Its how you raise them"

My friend treated this dog like one of her children.

"The dog was provoked"

Bullsh*t! This thing just got up and tried to kill a human, no provikation.

"It was just a bad dog, mine would never do that"

You really want to risk your childrens or other peoples children on this hope. You never hear of Boarder Collies or Poodles maming or killing people. Your dog was bread TO ATTACK AND KILL.

Nothing personal, just what I have seen a family go through with one of these "harmless" animals:roll:

your ignorance makes me chuckle.

don't get me wrong, there are bad pits just as there are other bad breeds.

im sorry to here about your friends son. im sorry to say it but there is a reason for everything. maybe that dog did just "snap" does NOT mean it had anything to do with its breed. could of been bad breeding, lots of reason.

the reason you see more pit bulls in the news then any other breed "gone bad" is just the simple fact it makes better news.there are just as many other breeds out there that have bitten killed or chased someone down but it doesn't sound interesting enough on the news when it says "man bit by beagle"

Look, your dog or any other dog wouldn't last 5 seconds with my dedicated killer.........We have to put a muzzle on him just to take him outside........that is if we can catch him in the 20 minutes a day he's not sleeping.

Its all bad press huh, why do Police in many cities have a "shoot on site" rule for Pitbulls? Why is it illegal to own them in many places? When you search for "dog kills" you get stories mostly about Rotties, PitBulls, ETC?

Look, you can like or even love your dog but there is one FACT you cannot ignore or dismiss...

<table class="wikitable"><tbody><tr><th>Place</th> <th>Ban Status</th> </tr> <tr> <td>Royal City, Washington[1]</td> <td>Active: 12 Jan, 2007</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Denver, Colorado [2]</td> <td>Active: Banned on 9 May, 2005 (first banned in 1980's)</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Ontario, Canada[3]</td> <td>Active: Banned on 15 October, 2004</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Winnipeg, Canada[4]</td> <td>Active: Banned in 1990</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Prince George's County, Maryland[5]</td> <td>Active: 1996</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Shelbyville, California[6]</td> <td>Proposed: 18 November, 2006</td> </tr> <tr> <td>New York City, NY[7]</td> <td>Proposed: 28 December 2006</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Aurora, Colorado[8]</td> <td>Proposed: 27 September, 2005</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Oklahoma [9]</td> <td>Proposed 21 June, 2005</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Youngstown, Ohio[10]</td> <td>Proposed: 10 January, 1999</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Bronx, NY</td> <td>Active: Banned on 17 January, 2007</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Richland, Washington[1]</td> <td>Proposed: 21 December, 2006</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Brooklyn, NY</td> <td>Active: Banned on 13 January, 2007</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Tupelo, Mississippi[11]</td> <td>Proposed: 28 September, 2006</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Harlem, NY</td> <td>Active: Banned on 11 January, 2007</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Parker, Colorado[12]</td> <td>Proposed: 17 January, 2006</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Queens, NY</td> <td>Active: Banned on 8 December, 2005</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Chicago, Illinois[13]</td> <td>Proposed: 17 November, 2005</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Yonkers, NY</td> <td>Active: Banned on 3 November, 2006</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Independence , Missouri [14]</td> <td>Proposed: 19 June, 2006</td> </tr> <tr> <td>France[15]</td> <td>Active: April 30, 1999; Ownership restricted; non-pure-breed animals resembling pit-bulls are to be surgically neutered</td> </tr> <tr> <td>United Kingdom[16]</td> <td>Active: 12 August, 1991 (Banned in public places, under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991)</td></tr></tbody></table>

These are just SOME of the places that are prepossing or have already deemed owning a PitBull, Rotty, Dobbie is an illegal offence.

To much info proving they are dangerous to come back with...

"your ignorance makes me chuckle."

and...

"there are bad pits just as there are other bad breeds"

Like Rotties and Dobbies, all are banned in more than one city, county, or state in a couple counties. All are dangerous breeds bread for warfare and killing.

Look up PitBulls and read, the ONLY people that speak positivly about them are breeders and rescue operations that don't believe in putting any dog down.

RD400 you do have a valid point but I disagree that dogs are evil. One of my dad's friends has a pitbull and he is very fatherly with his pups and he is very nice to everyone. I have 2 german shepard pups: one male and female(brother and sister). The male is mean to strangers and he hates mailmen(a mailman maced him for no reason) and anyone that he does not know. Now with us he is a complete dufus that loves his logs and his soccer ball.

i bet if you research a little harder you will find there are more dog bites from small breed dogs than big dogs....

but once again small dog bites don't make the news because its not as "eye catching"

I never said they were evil, I said they are dangerous.

A dog bite is a whole different thing compaired to what these dogs do. I have seen what a PitBull, Rottie bite and Poodle, Boarder Collie, ****zu, Wheiner dog, etc. bite does. Big differance. A Poodle will bite you and it hurts like hell but it doesn't break bones or possibly kill you. I have been attacked by a smaller breed dog, do you think that punching a PitBull in the head will make it let go like the mut that attacked me did? No. They were bred for this...

"protected the farmer by subduing the bull if it attempted to gore him. Typically a dog would do this by biting the bull on the nose and holding on until the bull submitted. Because of the nature of their job, bulldogs were bred to have powerful, muscular bodies, and the resolve to hold onto a violently-struggling bull, even when injured."

I will stop posting if you agree that PitBulls are far more dangerous then most other breeds of dogs. You have to give me at least that much. Good for you if you have one that dies of old age without being involved in a biting or an attack, but what if you don't? Whos fault will it be? Will you blame yourself, the owner? Or maybe the breeder that sold you the dog? Maybe even the person that was mauld? But don't you think that the breed itself is the biggest problem?

HELLO!!! do you people read the paper, listen to the radio or watch t.v. there is a pit attack on childern / ect, all the time, I will tell you what if it ever happens that a pit or any dog for that matter attacks my son i will kill it my self!!! & then beat the sh#$ out of the owner!!!! because you know they will try to make up a story that it wasent the dogs falt, i dont know what happend hes never done that before, Hes a good dog! my a**

Think of all the good things Hitler did....

everything....man, woman, child and animal has a good and bad side....

so if it were a pit, rotty, sharpy, or even a pug they are animals and animals are natural born killers..... think about it...

just because you see pits in the news that doesn't mean all pits are bad!

You are a lost cause...I give up. What comes out of your head and falls onto the keyboard is complete jiberish. There is no talking sence into the senceless.

Just lastweek here in Denver a Pit jumped a fence and was killing another dog, the dogs owner put his gun right to the pits head and shot twice, bullets lodged in the dogs brain, but it didn't even slow him down.

That's why you hear bad news about Pits, once they go into a killing frenzy there is nothing you can do to stop them. Most any other breed of dog you kick them once or twice and they stop. Pits fight to the death.
