Plastic Lightweight Axle tubes...from the CNC!

On the axle i received, the short side didnt have the indent cut out. I pmed him about it and he said it would be fixed. I realy think they should have the bottom hole drilled from the factory but not a huge deal. Weight savings was dissapointing for me. I was already running the gen 1 proto axles with the ultra light cases so i didnt save much at all. If you are running cast axles the difference would be huge.

I have been swamped building our new facility and havent even driven the truck. We are having a tuneup comp Saturday so I will get more info on how they work then.

I would like to see a weight difference from the lightweight machined and cut down axles compared to the plastic ones. If there is a difference?

Your tubes before were plastic or AL? How much did you lose?

Light weight aluminum cnc tubes:
Long tube 1 5/8 oz (44g)
Short tube 7/8 oz (26g)

I dont see the weight of the delrin rears listed in the thread, if I get motivated Ill pull mine off.

Mine are turned down light weights. They are turned down to 12mm.

long- 31.4g

short- 24.5g

Thats with link mounts and bearings.

Edit: Just looked at the pics and they still have the bearings in them. haha

thats actually significantly more than I would have thought. Just over an ounce off the back end should help with the steep stuff. I would be interested to know how much the cast tubes weigh.

Cast set is 164g
Light weight set is 69g
These are without any grinding. I don't have the individual weight for these.

Im sitting at the first comp with the new tubes witg 2 bent rear axles... firat bent on a decent fall but the second bent on a fall of less than 1'. Ive got 2 machinest standing here and they are both blaming the flexability of the white delrin. You can actually see the tube flex when the truck is in a bind. I would highly recommend switching to either black delrin or nylon. I know from experience that the black does not flew like the white (even though its supposed to be the same).

I can tell you're using a touch screen! LoL

So they can be bent back right? Some flex is good if there is no breakage.

Thanks for the update!

Delrin is Duponts trademarked name for Acetyl. I use both all the time for machining parts and chassis. Just depends which brand/generic is on sale at the time I am ordering.

I bent the short shaft back by hand after the first fall. That when I first saw the delrin tube itself bending. I made it 3yrs with the original aluminum tubes without bending a rear shaft and had falls from allot higher. This is just one of those spots where you need it to be very rigid versus letting it flex to keep it from breaking. I hate that I bent my shafts but, at least I can provide what is hopefully constructive feedback as to how to fix the problem.

Wow. I wonder if it's the material. I have had ZERO issues with mine.

Pm me and I will handle getting you fixed up.

I would be interested to know what you find out. I always heard it was white that was stronger than black. I have never been able to find anything on the net to prove one color is stronger than the other, only that they are the same strength.

I dont want to only point out the faults... On the good side, I was able to go to a far lighter front wheel and still make the same climbs. Thats a big improvement to me.
