Duramax cause' I think they sexy.

Dang chebby nerd's

I drove a superduty 7.3 powerstroke for close to 200,000 miles and I would much rather have the dodge cummins anyday.I had to be towed twice buy a dodge and I'm a ford guy but the dodge is where its at and allways will be.During that 200,000 miles I pulled a duramax chebby that had ripped the ring and pinion in the rear out I had to drag it for about a 1/4 mile to a safe place the old ford loved it.:flipoff:

engine aside we need to look at the durability of the truck as a whole. that being said i havent much exp. with chevy but dodge and ford, the towing company i sub for has had 2 dodge trucks converted with vulcan beds both trucks had broken (not cracked or bent) sheared frame rails one just infront of the rear axel and the other near the motor mount as for the ford there all f550's and other than replacing brakes and clutches they havent had a single prob. also ive heard the the powerstroke is the only truck with a factory exhaust brake, and ford and chevy have vairiable pitch turbos to help keep them spooled up and cut turbo lag

lets see converting a Pickup to a tow truck VS. a 2.5 ton ford to a tow truck? gee wonder why they dont compare.

if you want to see the real deal go check out the black mesa coal mine in shonto AZ some day........they only use dodges..........
there is a line of chevy's broke in 2, they bought 10 in 2003 and none are still in operation. although their fleet of dodges is still running except for the one that got crushed buy one of those massive dump trucks

I've always been a Ford guy. EVERYONE I know that bought one of the new 6.0L Powerstrokes was having trouble with them.... leaking oil, not running right, not running at all and having to be towed in, etc. I bought a Dodge..... or, I wouldn't say I chose Dodge... I bought a Cummins! ;-)

I'd like to have my dads '06 Harley Edition F250 with my 24V Cummins in it! That would be the perfect truck!8)

With good power comes good noise, just like a race car. More noise=more power.;-) They are actually pretty quiet inside, I don't care how loud it is ouside I drive it from the inside. I think the belt squeel is a 24v thing, my 12v has never done that.
More nois, more power, no, look at these Honda Ricers with fart cans on them, they are loud but slow as crap.
Rockworks, our wrecker service converted our Chevy Duramax to a wrecker, it never had a problem.

Just like CSR said, I bought a Cummins, not a Dodge! That being said, I can only speak from my experiences. I have a 3000# camper, a 2,000# trailer that I haul a 4,000# Jeep Scrambler on. I can tow the whole load at 75 mph and get 15 mpg doing it. My buddy with a comparable load with his Super Duty can't keep up. We both have mods to our trucks, and mine just runs away from his. By the way, he gets about 10 mpg with the same load. The Cummins has been around forever and is simple in design. Lots of mods available, easy to work on, and the power comes from 5.9 litre 6 cylinder, while all the others have to use 8 cylinders to try and keep up! Just my .02:lol:

Either motor can be made into a monster, but I like the v-8 sound better than the I-6 exhaust note. Not sure if that would be enough to sway my decision if I were able to buy one though...The Dodge interiors seems to fit me better than the Fords. (seats are too high in the Ford, I'm 6'4)

Hey BigJay, I have the build info on that truck one of my off road rags, if you want me to give you guys some info, lemme know I'll post the specs on that tuck

hehe... Here's another cummins IN a Ford... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6310211386041871754

But I voted ford... cause putting a cummins in a ford would be too much work for me.. and I LOVE my superduty. But since the hardest work it sees is plowin snow, I just went with the 5.4l.

A powersmoke all day long and a bag of chips baby. Work truck has 294,000 miles and still kick ***. Buddys 99 has Bully dog setup and straight 5" exhaust, Turbo and other stuff to, six speed, 37" IROCs 4.11 gears = bad as hell. Mines stock and does more than i need.

the original monster truck bigfoot was a ford. enough said.

yeah a ford 460 GAS monster truck has alot to do with towing and driivability of a diesel....... ......DIP......:flipoff: .....LOL

and the only diesel monster truck to ever compete was a Dodge cummins twin turbo setup........450 hp and 1200 ft lbs of torque

The Cummins is better. :)

SECOND THAT, my 2001 cummins has 261,000 and still gets 18mpg all day long! and it will pull 20,000 lbs like it is nothing!

OK... So far there has been a lot of arguing and bitching without anyone posting any actual performance numbers. So here ya go, taken from the actual company websites.

Duramax Diesel 6600 V8
For production units after Sept. 2005 with the Allison six-speed automatic transmission:
360 horsepower @ 3000 rpm
650 lb.-ft. of torque @ 1600 rpm

6.0l Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel 32-valve V8
Engine electronics Electronic
Displacement 363 CID
Horsepower (SAE net@rpm) 325@3,300
Torque (lb.-ft.@rpm) 570@2,000
Compression ratio 18.0:1

5.9-Liter HO Cummins Turbo Diesel Engine
The Dodge Ram Heavy Duty Cummins Turbo is an inline 6 cylinder diesel engine that produces 610 pounds-feet of torque at 1,600 RPM and 325 horsepower at 2,900 RPM from 5.9 liters of displacement. With Common-Rail Direct Injection, this is one quiet diesel engine.

As for actual real world performance, my truck out tows yours, blah blah. What everyone here is failing to take into account here is gearing. Comparing a truck with 4.10 gears to one with 3.73, or even 3.56s, well the towing performance will be no where close.

And as stated previously, the current generation Duramax kicks *** right now. Of course who knows who will be king next year. All Ford or Dodge has to do is crank up the boost a little and all will be even again.

I think I read this in another thread somewhere and I'd have to agree with this. To get the best truck, you need the interior of a Chev, the chassis, body, axles, and drive train of a Ford, and then the cummins power plant.

All that being said, I drive an old 6.5 TD Chev with 4.10 gears and a 5 speed. I do love the old beast.

I what we can all agree on is....

Real trucks don't have spark plugs :D

Your Forgot The 7.3

Yes well, manufacturers tend to be bad about keeping specs around for engines they no longer use.

For the 2001 model 7.3

The 7.3L Power Stroke® turbo diesel V-8 produces 250 horsepower (15 more than last year) and 505 lb.-ft. of torque with the automatic transmission, and 275 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque when joined to a manual transmission (late availability).

See, the great part about those numbers... Cummins does it with only 6 cylinders. By the way, who makes the Duramax, is it made by chevy or is it made by another company. Sorry for the ignorance, I just dont know much about chevy vehicles
