See, the great part about those numbers... Cummins does it with only 6 cylinders. By the way, who makes the Duramax, is it made by chevy or is it made by another company. Sorry for the ignorance, I just dont know much about chevy vehicles

yes, but each individual cylinder is much larger. If you look, the total displacement between all 3 engines is quite similar... The difference is negligible between the ford and dodge.

The Duramax is made by Isuzu. Since Isuzu falls under the GM umbrella of companies, up to you to decide whether or not it's in-house.

Thats what I thought, I consider that chevy. I've learned not to open my mouth and look like a moron, I do that good enough with it closed, so I didnt want to say something and be horribly wrong. Oh, and that tech post about the engines power and the cummins being quiet, the person who wrote that must be near deaf.

All of the questions have already been answered. I have already stated that duramax is made by isuzu and that gearing is a massive factor in mileage and towing capabilities. That being said those numbers earlier posted might be accurite im not sure, but whats the durability of the 6.0? I havent had any experiwnces with the cummins but twice my dads friend has come over the borrow our truck and reciver to pull his truck home. They have all been under warranty but still. We drive 400 miles out to a town that is mad up of a lodge and thats it. My dads 88 chevy has made it there as has our 7.3. We cant take a truck that would be iffy and not perform. Its a 2 lane high way that is up and down over and over. Our truck has 4.11's in it and will not go fatser then 95. I think 93 was the fastes the gps ever said. If we has 3.73s we could go faster but get less mileage when towing seeing as it would have to be in a lower gear and turning more rpm's sp it wouldnt fall on its face. Sense all we do with that truck is tow its realy not an issue.

who saw the episode of trucks where they took the deasel ford and put a bully dawg kit on it with a 6 stage power selector? that was crazy as a mother! i would still take the cummins and i like the dodge styling more. they change the look instead of letting it die as chevy did imo..ford also revamped well. i would take a cummins equiped dodge dually though.

tube buggy with a cummins diesel set up with BDS or Piers Diesel compound twin turbo would be sick!!! of course it has to be mached with some portal axles and o almost for got propane and water injection. this is makin my mouth water. gobs of hp!!! even better over 1000 ft/lbs of torque!!!

the problem is weight......the cummins weights as much as some of the entire comp rigs! most use air cooled or water cooled 4 cyl engines (flat 4's) and powerglide 2 speed autos joined up to an atlas 4 speed TC. then into custom built ford 9" axles...........
