Project 8-Ball - 2.2 Trail (Class 3) FJ40 for 2015

Very nice work!"

Thanks this has been a really fun build.

She's really a great looking rig Dana if it doesn't dominate the 2015 MNRCRC 2.2 trail class I'd be very surprised.

I sure hope so Norm. Of course the rig is only part of the equation. The bigger part is the oaf behind the radio. I think she'll be a performer. Still needs a few tweaks.

I had a delivery I was lucky to find out he still made. MThead emblems for the fj40

I also did a little siping on the front tires to try and help with wet rocks. Only went 1/16" or less deep. That way it'll break in over time if I don't like it.

I still can't decide if I should paint the al panels. A buddy of mine suggested painting them but masking off a section that would look like rock armor. That's the best suggestion I've had yet. Still don't know.

The badges really top it off and I agree with painting , chick's dig scars.
Nice spot for the lights too , out of harms way..

I cleaned masked primed and painted the panels. I left some "armor" on them

I may cut out some of that diamond tread I used in the bed to cover the silver areas to be more scale.

I ended up making those diamond tread armor plates. Looks pretty good. Got her over to my buddies house today to get some time on the rocks. Also got the snorkel all mounted up with a foam filter and everything. Surprisingly it doesn't get hung up too bad.

Everything was going well until the gears in my HH servo went. Time for good ol trusty savox.

We're you running the hardened steel gears?

I'm not sure. I bought the servo new in the late fall last year and it's been working good. I am not sure if it has the original v2 gears or the new hardened steel ones. Contacted holmes. Hopefully will have a new gear set coming soon.

For now it's savox 1230 which I ran for almost a year in my Swamprat truck. Only failure I've had on those is the top plastic case. Which is a $6 replacement.

Ahh probably old gears. New ones came out in December I think.

Got out last minute for some trail running in the snow with my buddy. Got some cool terrain. Really found out that these swampers do not have traction on ice. At all. Lol. Good thing we don't comp in the snow.

Phil tried out one of the cricks and it was super slippery and then his tire started digging in the ice. So we had to fish it out.

Then we got back and the front Trans output on his ax2 finally gave way.

Been doing a little work on this rig since the last snow.
I lowered the front end about 1/2". Softened the rear springs. She crawls like a beast now.

Had to button up some interior stuff for the snow crawl finals.
Put the seat on the passenger side with the safety harness in place.

Bunch more interior stuff done but didn't take pics yet. Will shortly.

Here are some crawling photos from that last comp at Phil's.

Was able to beat privjoker for the first time in the finals (only by 9 seconds) The mods to the chassis and suspension definitely helped.

Can't wait for the 2015 mnrcrc season. Sadly I'll miss the first comp but I'll be coming back with a vengeance.
