Project Spitfire(Pic Heavy)

Finally got something new for the Wraith.

DinkyRC drop box.

Hoping to get it in soon. Might squeeze it in during some downtime on my "Project: Budget Overhaul" Honcho rebuild. I extended the steering wheel so my driver(Max Fisher figure) would sit better in the interior. Still need to make a harness and get him mounted in there. Should have that done when I get the drop box in. Stay tuned. "thumbsup"

That paint looks awesome!! Did you ever get the drop box installed?

Thanks. Not yet. I'm still in the middle of my "Project: Budget Overhaul" Honcho rebuild right now. Should have it in pretty soon though. I've also got a few other goodies going in it so stay tuned. "thumbsup"

Minor update!

Planning to get the newest parts I order a while back in the Wraith within the next few days. Just wanted to share a few pix I snapped while I was getting it ready.

Only minor mod I've done so far is legthen the steering rod. Should have the stuff to make the harnesses soon, so I'll be able to finally get the driver in.

1239544_719330344760310_2084731173_n.jpg

Got a few goodies to throw in the old beast. Dinky drop box, HR 32p 57t steel spur, RR 32p 12t steel pinion, Pro-Line and Hobby Gear scale goods, and an Axial light kit(liquid tape was drying).

Hopefully I can get this stuff in and outta the way by the weekend so I can get back into my "Project: Budget Overhaul" Honcho rebuild. Stay tuned kiddos! "thumbsup"

Also, here's a little something I whipped up in Adobe Lightroom that I thought turned out kinda cool. Some spit-tone fun with the Wraith.

Later taters.

Updates!

Spent some time today getting the majority of the new parts installed. Here are the results. :D

Got the battery moved forward. Hacked up the stock battery tray and mounted it where the ESC was. Also got the light kit, pinion and spur, and the Dinky box in.

Looking forward to doing some night time wheeling now that the lights are in.

Added a fire extinguisher and moved the reciever box to the rear.

1236129_719730621386949_1283669977_n.jpg

So far I'm liking the drop box, just wish I could get it to fit a little better. I'm planning on getting the Dinky fuel cell to replace the reciever box. Also need to get the scale goods installed, just wasn't 100% on which ones I wanted. :)

That's all I've got so far. Need to get the stuff to make the race harnesses and then I'll get the driver in, might even give him an updated look as well seeing as how he's become a popular choice now. :D Stay tuned folks! "thumbsup"

I managed to get some actual "post mod" wheel time in a couple days ago on a trip back from Charlotte, NC. My lady and I decided to go on a spur of the moment hike and found a really cool spot on one of the trails leading to the top of King's Mountain. The truck performs incredibly well now, and I kept amazing myself at the amount of angle it could handle before starting to tip backwards. Check the pix. My girlfriend snapped most of them while I was driving around. :D

Going further back on the trail.

Rocks and rocks and rocks everywhere. :D

Hit this one a little too fast at first, but it didn't flip. It just rolled back and I went at it again. :)

We didn't go much further up the trail because we were pressed for time and wanted to get to the top of the mountain, but here is a shot of the trail going back down from where we were.

Just flexin' on a big rock near the start of the trail.

We made it to the top. The tough hike was definitely worth it. Didn't get to drive the truck around much due to it having motor issues. I kept noticing that it would just stop and wouldn't move unless I nudged it with my foot. I noticed the other day when I was getting it back together that the negative motor wire did seem a little loose, so hopefully that's all it is.

That's all I've got for now. Gonna check the motor wires and see if that's the cause of the trouble I was having, and I might throw some scale goods in as well. Stay tuned. "thumbsup"

Looking good! Just a heads up, the Dinky fuel cell won't actually fit in the drop bed :(

~Chip
Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering that myself. I was just gonna use the new Pro-Line one but it was too wide and thought it would look kinda weird turned vertically.

Minor updates.

Got the motor issue worked out. Turns out it was just the motor wires themselves. I completely cleaned off the old factory solder and resoldered the wires back on, and now this thing is even more of a beast than it was before. Here's a little video of it conquering the couch. :D

Also, I got the rest of the items to make the harnesses for the seats and finally get my driver in. Should have those done within the next day or two. Stay tuned. Later taters. "thumbsup"

Minor update.

Flipped the link/shock mounts around and lowered the truck almost half an inch. Still needing to get the seat harnesses made and the driver installed, but I decided to go with a smaller size ribbon and haven't made time to go get any. Here's a few comparison pix of the mounts flipped.

Mounts upright.

Sitting at rest, with a nimh battery in, the bottom of the side panel comes to 3.5".

Lowered almost a half inch. Looking pretty sexy now. :D

That's all for now kiddos. Stay tuned! "thumbsup"

Finally got around to getting some work done on this beast. I recently met up with some guys at a local spot and had a good run, despite taking a risk on not using a BEC with my new Lipo battery and losing my steering near the start of the run. Since then I've cleaned up the beast and added a few new scale goods.

Some action shots from our GTG.

I had a blast running up the mountain, and even though I had almost no steering for nearly the entire run, I still made it all the way to the top.

After I got the truck back home and cleaned up I installed a new Castle 10A BEC and started getting the truck back together. I won't bore ya with many build pix, so here's what I did.

1521894_793501390676538_436965654_n.jpg

Before the GTG I had already temporarily zip tied the driver in and added some scale goods to the rear, which I'm sure you might've noticed in the previous pix. Anyways, once I got the truck cleaned up I decided to finally finish up my five point harnesses I'd kinda had on the back burner. They turned out great, especially after repainting the driver's shirt with some black PlastiDip. :D
1546324_793501397343204_825804351_n.jpg

I also slapped an Axial sticker I had lying around to the shirt. Overall I'm pleased with the way it turned out but I kinda wish the PlastiDip would've been more of a flat black. Maybe down the road I can hit it with a dull coat or something.

Closer shot of the driver and the new harnesses.
1503244_793501660676511_1449692606_n.jpg

In this shot you can see the fake quick releases I made for the harnesses.
1505080_793501664009844_1213124976_n.jpg

The belt attachments are all soldered onto the inside half of a snap button, and the quick release is soldered to the outside half. When snapped together the release can rotate similar to its real life counterpart.

A shot of the goods in the rear.
1510774_793501967343147_41806723_n.jpg

A close up of the rear goods. It's hard to tell from this shot, but I've got a cord/hose running from the nitrous bottle to my reciever box/fuel cell.

1507636_793501970676480_171617689_n.jpg

All in all I'm super pumped about how this rig has turned out so far.

576558_793501960676481_979607215_n.jpg

Now I just need to get it back outside and beat on it some more. :D

Hoping to have some new action shots soon. Stay tuned kiddos! "thumbsup"

Nice rig. I have a kit version coming next week. I have gotten tons of ideas from your build. :) Thanks
