proline powerstrokes vs rc4wd scale shocks

Both have their +'s and -'s in my opinion.

The Power strokes are buttery smooth but there must be 1 cross threaded cap in every set.

The RC4WD are not very smooth without some messaging but the shock is put together very well.

The other thing to look at is shock body diameter. I think the RC4WD shock is much more scale in most cases.

In terms of quality...hands down the Proline's win in my book since they don't leak oil and the movement is really smooth.

The RC4WD shocks take a bit of work to get them to move smoothly and I get a bit of leakage...but only a very small bit.

As far as scale looks...with external springs installed, the RC4WD's are more scale looking IMO. They look much closer to a real coilover shock assembly. But, if not running any external springs, the Proline's take the scale look away from the RC4WD shocks.
 
im not going for much of a scale appearance, imo, performance>scale appearance, because i want this truck the perform good on the trails
when u say "cross threaded cap" what do u mean?
 
the early power strokes were machined wrong and the caps were too loose and were messed up pro-line says they "fixed" the problem, i am running them no problems "so far".
 
also, i noticed my drive shafts are pretty short, and im running the stock 60mm scx10 shocks, would switching to the 90mm shocks require me to get longer drive shafts? its already at the urge of coming apart if it want any lower as it sits right now
where could i find the longer ones?
 
If it's that close to coming apart already, you may want to remedy that now. Using Traxxas Stampede shafts, you could could do the common fix and mate 2 female halves with 1 male section glued (or set-screwed) on one end. Dry fit everything for length and lateral movement, cut to fit "thumbsup"
 
well i decided to go with the prolines, as they have more of a positive review
other than my shaft problem(which ill probably do what TrailDawg said)
what wt oil would be good for these? its going into a 2.2 scx10
i do have some 45wt oil that i use in my rc18, but will the movement be too slower or too hard?
 
Opinions will vary on this one, depending on preference and driving style. I went with a lighter weight oil, but that's just me. Real world testing will let you know whats gonna work for you. Speed and terrain will affect how the suspension will react with any choice of viscosity of shock oil.

Longer shocks will force your drive shafts closer together, due to the travel arc of the axles.

I would bet that the TR Honcho has 30wt oil in the shocks. But 30wt in the Pro-Lines might feel different, because of different pistons in the shocks and the springs are a different rate. You could start off with 30wt and change it to a different wt. if needed, it will take a little trial and error to get them the way you like.:ror:
