Hey all,
I just wanted to share my experiences with ProTek's new 370-TBL servo - hopefully I can help someone avoid the mistakes I've made...
Even though I've sent back the last two ProTek servos I tried within two weeks due to them failing, I was still seduced by the specs on this servo and the fact it's waterproof. I thought to myself "it's been a over a year since I tried a ProTek servo, maybe they've gotten better." I WAS WRONG!
Anyway, I decided to give the 370-TBL a try. I ordered one on 1/21/17 and received it a few days later. The servo was completely dead out of the box. I verified this by testing with a known good servo (a $22 Solar D772 that has been working flawlessly for over two years).
AMain was prompt to issue an RMA and I sent the servo back the next day. As I needed a servo for the weekend I ordered a second 370TBL and paid an additional $36.49 for UPS 2nd Day Air. My second 370TBL arrived last night (2/1/17). Upon installing it, it worked flawlessly for less than 30 seconds before it stopped - another servo totally dead. Again, I confirmed this using a known good servo. All of this happened on the bench with absolutely NO WEIGHT OR RESISTANCE on the servo.
I have tried both these servos in a Vaterra Ascender with a Holmes BRXL ECS and a Castle BEC set at 7.2v. The main power lead on the ESC has been disconnected going into the receiver so that only the ground and signal wires from the ESC connect to the receiver (as per Holmes and Castle instructions). I'm using a Spektrum DX3R Pro with a Spektrum SR3100 receiver.
All said, I've spent $356.46 for two servos in one week that COMBINED have a total of less than 30 seconds of trouble-free operation! The customer support I've received from AMain has been top-notch (as always) and I've had absolutely no issue getting an RMA issued to return both servos. Outside of this I've always enjoyed doing business with AMain, but I feel the ProTek brand of electronics reflects HORRIBLY on their overall great business.
Don't make the same mistake I did - STAY AWAY FROM PROTEK SERVOS!!! This servo is an absolute, unmitigated PIECE OF JUNK!!!
