Well, Here goes:

I attempeted to build a Hilux with a tube bed, only to not see much progress, so I scrapped the idea, and went with something familiar to me: a K2 chassis!

I've already started building, I have alot finished. I still have things to do (Rear suspension, Body work, etc.) so updates WILL happen! I tore apart another rig and stole the electronics, so hopefully there will be good progress made, and I'll actually stick with this rig...

Here's a few pics:

Frame mounted servo: (likages will probably get re-worked)

and the last pic is a VERY rough template/idea of how I want to do a bed. I'd like to add tube work, but it'll probably never happen...

Specs so far are:
-Revo Shocks
-TCS lowers
-TLT Axles with front CVD's, Alum C's, Alum Knuckles, Rear Straight Adapters, Bearings, 1pc Dinky-Link up front
-Allthread/Revo ends for front uppers (will get covered with aluminum tube)
-Axial Transmission
-Integy 45t motor
-Pede Shafts (Steel yokes at tranny)
-SCX-10 Beadlocks
-1.9 Rok Lox, full foam

Servo is just for mock-up (basically a case and gearset...) Body is just barely mounted (but it's about where I want it...)

I'll be adding:
-Mamba Max
-DX3/SR3000
-HS645MG (a good one...)
-Rear Axle Truss
-6cell batteries

I don't care about spring rate. I want BLACK springs! I'm pretty well a color whore, so black springs are a MUST. Anyone got any links?:)

I just got a bunch of stuff to do styrene work, so I'll see how bad I can mess up there soon as well... :lmao: All comments welcome; I know it sucks;-)

I hardly ever see k2 chassis i love mines this is my very first tube frame i did ever took me two days to make this was taken three days ago i had to rpair it cause it got hammered so i added some stuff. just keep at it, it took me awhile to get it right."thumbsup"

I too love the K2 chassis! I've wanted one since they came out, and finally was in a position to get one, and can now build it up!

I made a bit more progress (not much, I'm lazy...). I made an electronics plate to mount my ESC and Rx. I simply took a piece of styrene and bolted it to the chassis brace behind the front shocks. Other progress includes the addition of the rear truss, and I re-located the front shocks.

Okay, here's pics:

I'd still like to see some recommendations for black springs, the red is an eye-sore! :lmao:

Tomorrow, I plan to get allthread for the rear links. Then I'll get it running, and then attempt body work...

I haven't forgot about this... and I'm still (slowly) making progress...

A few weeks ago, I finally figured out where all my electronics will be mounted permanantly. More on that later. I modified the mount, and switched up what electronics I'll be running...

Here's the mount: (I added a "battery" plate, and a body post for the antenna)

In the chassis:

The only massive change was the ESC. I had the Mamba Max, but decided to sell it to obtain a bit of currency. My roommate gave me a killer deal on his old electronics from his Honcho... so I'll now be running an Axial AX-1 esc.

I've done some moving around/modding on the chassis, and almost have it ready to drive. I'm still waiting on a TRX connector (for the ESC) to finish up the electronics, but I hope to have it done before too long!

I'll have more pictures in a day or two... once I get things situated and whatnot. Keep the comments comin"thumbsup"

Good to see another K2 chassis out there. I have had a K2-3L for sometime definietely one of my favorite chassis's for sure. I've built it in many different configurations and think I've stubbled across the perfect setup. I'm also using TLT axles so if I can be of any assistance let me know. I think the best mods I made were narrowing the chassis to run the shocks on the outside of the rails and cutting the tranny mount area off and making a thin steel skid/trans mount. By removing the plastic skid, cutting off 5/8" of chassis, using the upper link holes for the lowers and drilling new uppers I gained almost 3/4" of ground clearence but only raised the tranny by a 1/4". Of course if you have a K2-5 everything is already done for you. Here's a pic of my setup.

I also added a link to my K2-3L Cherokee build gallery, hope it helps your progress.

Small update:

Here is the electronics plate all loaded down. The battery will mount on the piece of aluminum in the front of the chassis brace with a velcro strap. I'm waiting on battery plugs to run it, but they came in the mail today (with other goodies:)) so expect an update either later tonight, or tommorrow.

I re-worked the steering as well. I also moved the rear-most brace to the front of the chassis and re-mounted the servo. I had to move the servo back in the chassis about 1/4" to clear the brace, but the front of the chassis (and the steering) has about no flex, and is responsive as ever"thumbsup" I don't have pics of the steering or front end yet (I'll post em when I update), but here's how the rear of the chassis looks. Leaving my options wide open when it comes to a flatbed or tubework...

I also noticed that my wheelbase was off just a hair up front. I figured that as opposed to moving the body, I'd make new links. It'll give me a chance to beef up the suspension with Revo ends, and make it more reliable. That combined with an upper shock-mount relocation is what I'm working on currently. I don't have pics of the current state (I'll try to snap some progress pics though), but I took this a few days back:

I'm really looking forward to seeing this thing move... Just a bit more work and I'll be crawling!

More soon, thanks for looking! -Greg
