Revo Driveshaft Installation?

I see that many on this forum have installed Revo driveshafts in their TXT-1's. I tried to install the Revo universal and there is a clearance issue with the transmission case. I am able to install the driveshaft from the original T-Maxx, but not the Revo which is larger in diameter. The tranny case I am using is the Jugg 2 2000 model and not the TXT-1 2001 model. Is there a difference in model years that allows for clearance of the larger revo universal joint?
 
No, there is some grinding and shaving that needs to be done to the Revo yoke. Just use a dremel or a sharp hobby knife to remove a little bit of material around the yoke.
 
heres a little "how-to" i did on RCMT.net...

next some powertrain stuff...
the stock motors had to go, in favor of some Multiplex 600s!

then, i ground down a revo shaft to make it fit the tranny output:

and shaved down the heatsink on the opposite side:

so now i have the drive train basically ready!

wow thats alot of material removed, how do they hold up..wonder if you couldnt split the difference and take a bit from the case and a bit from the shaft..my txt is in storage or id look

When I had clearance issues with the Revo shaft, I tried the one from my original T-Maxx and that fit. I know the Revo shaft is much more durable, so I can see that would be the best choice. Do you think there is anyway the yoke from the original T-Maxx can fit onto the Revo shaft? I will have to compare them and see if that is possible. Otherwise, my dremel and knife is awaiting :shock:

Did you drill out the shaft for the grub/setscrew to fit into, or did you use a grub screw like Tamiya did with their yoke?

It's actually not whole lot of material, remeber he's shaving the stub shaft end of a complete revo axle assmebly. The stub shaft yoke end is pretty much shaped like that. The other end is the "fat" yoke which is going on the axle end so nothing needs to be done to it.

But I did shave both the yoke and the transmission housing to get them on mine.

The older Maxx shafts are completely different from Revos so the maxx yokes won't fit.

You do not need to drill the shafts for the grub screws but on the yoke on the transmission end it would be better to tap the hole for the grub screw since it doesn't have threads. But if you can't just force it and twist, the grub screw will eventually self tap, but it takes some effort.
 
i bought a set of revo shafts for my madforce super, figuring the max shafts it has wouldnt hold up but been 2 years on the max shafts and they seem fine..3s 10t puller and r2 tranny..hell i pull my buds kids around in thier little red wagon..really surprised at the max shafts durability..revo,s are almost twice the size
 
that's odd I didn't do anything but slip the shafts on my txt trans, it runs fine "thumbsup"

Could you show us pictures of your setup? What year is stamped into your case? Mine is a 2000 Jugg 2, but I should have the 2001 TXT-1 case. Not sure what the difference is?

i was actually going to do that myself, but it looked as though it would limit some movement.
depending on your suspension setup it could work just fine.

Hi. I used an original metal part from the TXT drive shaft.

I tried your idea and so far it looks like it will work perfectly! I removed the stepped end of the Tamiya TXT-1 universal by taking out the c clip and shaft. The Tamiya half did not want to slide over the Traxxas block, so I had to file both sides of that part until it slid on. Now I replaced the shaft and c clip and the Tamiya half is joined to the Traxxas half! Only problem I have is that the hole diameter is larger on the Traxxas part and the Tamiya shaft is a bit loose in there. I plan to make a sleeve out of tubing or try to use some of that Locktite retainer (red) to make up for the larger diameter hole. I also replaced both ends of the driveshaft.

If I'm not mistaken I drilled the hole in the TXT end a bit to fit the larger Revo part. I used the square part from the Revo for my shaft. But apparently this also works fine!

been searchin all over the interweb the last days to see how ppl have done it.

When I get back from vacation (Friday) I will take pictures of my Revo shafts on my TXT-1 - All I did was shave the Revo shaft were it bolts to the transmission"thumbsup"
 
nice, been trying to fit them directly myself today
but that was not as easy as i hoped it would be :P
some shaving is needed. ill wait to see how you did it before i start shaving then ;)
