Roll Center and crawling settings?

Hi everyone.

what roll Center setting is best for trailing and lite rock crawling? A higher or lower roll Center?

Also, does changing the roll Center using the inside links closest to truck increase or decrease ride height?

Honestly, it really all depends on the truck and how you like it set up. It is more important to have your CG right, balanced with your forward-to-back weight distribution and your ride height.

I know this really doesn't answer your question, but different RCs are set up differently. There is a big difference between how you set up a SCX10 and a XR10.

The ideal roll center will depend on the location of the center of gravity, so there is no one fixed answer.

Not sure about your question regarding link location effecting ride height? Could you rephrase it please?

Meatmonkey is dead on the money with this. Roll center is dependent on CG location of the truck. Ideally you want the roll center forward, and above the center of gravity. Too much and you'll have too much antisquat for the suspension to be effective. Too little and it'll start to hop when climbing like an out of the box SCX10. Really, I have yet to see an RC kit on the market that has correct/not arbitrary roll centers.

I think the problem was to adopt the right geometry , and these are the guidelines

Im sure he meant he raced rc cars for 9 years.. Awesome thread!! If you ever raced rc cars, a lot of setup knowledge applies to crawling too... Read/copy the hudy setup guide for rc cars.. It doesnt have anything to do with setting up a crawler but you can apply that here....

Hopefully this is sarcasm but I'm hoping you can explain why you'd think this way, if it's not. Dynamics is dynamics, we just can't ride on the trucks to feel what they're doing.

Because race cars are not toy trucks. Yes, dynamics is dynamics, but talking about race cars and using them as examples inevitably leads to thinking like you are building a race car.

You don't need to ride on the truck. Nobody cares how it rides. You need to watch how it drives.
