scale shocks, which is best?

I am looking for some scale shocks, what company is best? Really? the rc4wd shocks leak, or so I have read- I need some quality shocks, (with out springs) shocks that dampen, and control rebound. the spring portion will be dealt with coils up front, and leafs in the rear. I just need some quality shocks.

I am running the RC4WD 110mm shocks with MRC medium, Light springs, and #20 oil. No leaks so far, my rig is performing better than ever.

Well. If you want some nice looking shocks (w/o springs), I would go with rc4wd Ultimate Scale shock. They are not the toughest shock around, far from it, but look amazing and will do quite well for normal trail driving. I had some 90mm on my Campbell buggy a while ago and was pretty impressed. I put a couple drops of 40 weight in there (do not fill them up), and they worked fine.

I modded the rc4wd scale shocks (110mm). I took out the internal springs. I made the piston holes a little bigger and changed the spacer in between the 2 bottom o-rings, plus I've played with different o-rings to get a better seal. The top cap threads are horrible, so carefully put them on and expect them to strip out once in a while on hard landings if the shock bottoms out. I switched the cap o-rings out as well. mcmastercarr.com has lot's of sizes of o-rings.
I would like to see something similiar someday that's a little better designed in that diameter.

have you tried wrapping the threads with some teflon tape to secure them a bit better? just throwing an idea out there- any one else? so far it seems rc4wd is the only ones to get?

I did that to my leaking big bores and worked great. I have some white 100mm with yellow boots coming. If they leak ill try the tape again and let you know but I'm sure it will stop it leaking from the threads.

I never run scale shocks on scale rigs.
Ive always focused on performance attributes.

Losi crawler shocks, or Axial with Aluminum tops have worked great for me.
I've heard good things about the Proline scaler shocks, but PRICEY...

I got the rc4wd ultimate scale shocks. The first set I got were garbage so I sent them back and a new set was sent to me. The caps and oring sealing has been fixed but the valves in the pistons are still too small so some modifications are needed there so they will work when filled with oil. I have a set of the gtransition shocks also and they are a nice good working shock but not as scale looking. You need to be careful when ordering the transition shocks also because a 90mm shock is measured in the drop spring mode so if you don't want to use them in the drop they will be too long.

Losi makes goos shocks and some what scale looking
Traxxas Big bores are nice performing.
the TiNi (gold shaft)rod is the smoothest performing shaft in a shock
Heard mostly good but some leaking on the Prolines

I would like to hear more about the G-made as well.

My wheely king stock shocks work ok. After lots of use will leak. On the scale look, the best I have done is New springs and good out door paint on the bodies.

I use the Pro-Line 6060's, 30wt, no leaks. WAAAAAY better than the internal-sprung H/R's I did run.

Jun Fac makes them. I've ran them on my TTC rig and fell in love with them. A little large in diameter to be scale but function great.
If your running a tuber or heavy rig there the only shocks I would recommend. Run them in droop to bring down the COG and you'll be pleased. Need to point out tho that the oil that comes with them is not synthetic, more like motor oil so to help make your O rings servive I would run another brand of shock oil.
Got a set of the RC4WD ultimate scale shocks and there junk. They look really good but like mentioned above there not very durable at all. I had a couple of the brass incerts pop out just mounting them.

The G-made or G-Transition shocks can be a little tough to build correctly but theres a video on you-tube that walks you thru the process and be sure to use thred tape to combat leaks. Others have posted problems with leaks but I used thred tape and never experienced any leaks myself.

Proline powerstrokes. They are available in multiple sizes and are butter smooth. I had rc4wd super scales and HATED them. Bought 4 two were way stiffer than the others and one used to get hung up mid stroke. Love my powerstrokes on a kinda heavy tuber.
