So I cut some tennis balls....

I bought the netted bag of them around a year ago from wallmart, and they were fine. no black crap.
 
Head down to the local tennis club..ask about the dead balls. I have a felling you would get them cheap.
In tennis there is a big problem that there is no good way to recycle old tennis balls as they do go bad....most end up in schools as pads on chair legs...or the landfill.
