Special Occasion Whiskey

chivas regal single malt"thumbsup" or the glenlivet single malt..i think the chivas is nicer, i had a bottle 22yrs old and it was so smooth, working on the glenlivet 15yr old now:)

What is this Chivas Regal single malt you speak of? I thought all Chivas was blended and the only single-malt that Strathisla produced was under that name...

here is a bottle I just got, what I drink after I get off work.

but I really like the taste of Glenmorangie (the original)

Alberta Premium. It's actually one of the less expensive rye whiskey's but once it hits your lips it tastes so good.

Middleton by Jameson is very nice. It's a $150 bottle, and comes in a wooden box with an invitation to the distillery in Dublin. We went and got a distillery tour for free, and Jake got to sign a big fancy gold book at his bottle number. that is Jake's special occasion whiskey. once that one is empty (it's still half full, and I gave it to him for his bday like 2 years ago so that might be a while-- guess we don't have enough special occasions, lol), I'll find another super fancy one for him to try. probably a bushmills, he really likes Black Bush from them.

I know single malt scotch is good stuff but what's a good American bourbon if you don't mind my asking?Something more special than the regular Jack Daniels or Jim Beam.

I have been drinking Whiskey for quite a time now. I have never been a Huge Scotch fan. My go to and Favorites are anything that is made by Crown Royal. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

Whiskey is a pretty broad term fwiw. I personally dont care for much other than bourbon. I find anything other than that is much more bitter and most dont have the different wood overtones that I enjoy from an american bourbon. I cant stand scotch lol.

As for a good bourbon theres not much "class" at our local state controlled liquor stores. Most equate quality to price and about the most expensive bottle around here is $50-60, and from a big name.

Makers or Makers 46 is my normal sipping whiskey.

If you can find it, I would suggest "Powers" as well. It's a very smooth (and priced around the Maker's range) Irish whiskey. Great suff.

Probably have a few "Neats" with a Bud bottle back after work (is it 5 yet...)

Cheers!

It's definitely a different drinking method between the variations of whiskey varieties.

Most in your area or most? It costs money to age any brand...

I know a Irish person with that last name and gave me a Powers Neat, twas quite good, thanks for reminding me.

Being a merchandiser for a spirits distributor we get bottles of liquor given to us all the time. Im a lifelong Crown Royal drinker, but its a blend, and Canadian. Cask 16 being my favorite of the line-up. Its finished in cognac barrels and gives it a very nice, almost sweet finish. To bad its being discontinued.

Pappy is one of the higher end choices for a bourbon. Its now on limited production and can only be had in very small runs. This makes it really expensive. Its good but not worth the price tag. IMO.

A good bourbon that has a reasonable price but can still hang with the fellas in the lockbox behind the counter would be Woodford Reserve. One of my favorites. Angels Envy is also a good choice

If your looking for a true rye whiskey, Whistle Pig is top notch, but so is the price. Bullit is also a good choice. They make a rye and rye/bourbon blend that is slighty smoother.

As much as I'm a single-malt scotch snob, that is pretty good stuff. I thought that may have been what you were talking about. The only other blended whiskey that I've had that I truly enjoyed was the Crown XR.

Well this is all I can add to this discussion...

Blended Scotch:

Johnnie Walker Blue

Tequila:

Cabo Uno

I have them both and they only come out for special occasions, and trust me they are thoroughly and completely enjoyed.

Edit: For daily Whiskey I highly recommend " The Famous Grouse" I received a bottle from my uncle in law and subsequently found-out it's the house brand for the top steak house in town.

All the Bullits I've had have been good...

for whiskey, you can't go wrong with Famous Grouse imho, but if you like it, try the Black Grouse, pretty darn good.

Pappy Van Winkle 20 or 23 year old... I buy'em whenever I see'em. Rare and very hard to get (a local shop does an auction). Not to mention really expensive. They run 140 and 240 respectively...

My everyday - Knob Creek!

Cheers,
Doc
